Thanks Joe!

Like clockwork, I could almost set my watch by this yearly closure!

The east end of Candy Apple Grove will be somewhat quieter for the rest of the summer. With the bump cars closed this week for Haunt prep and Shock-wave shutting down next week, only Bad Apple, Drop Tower, and the Swings will be the only rides running on this side of CAG.

^ Yes, I'm pretty sure this makes it 6 years in a row now that Dodgem has closed on the first Monday of August for Haunt construction.

Maybe now that Dodgem is closed for Haunt construction the park will announce Halloween Haunt details soon after the BBQ & Brew Festival ends next weekend.

I think that Outbreak was actually one of my favorite mazes last year, so I am withholding judgement. I wish they they were replacing MOM or Slaughterhouse instead.

I agree with that MoM facade. Why does an insane asylum look like a medieval castle? And this is a bit nitpicky, but the few fake bricks scattered sporadically across the gray plywood facade looks kind of cheap.

Meh, I guess that's a fitting look for a house of Maze of Madness's caliber... -_-

Considering it used to be a tent (see below)outside of Drop Tower, I think we can all agree it's an upgrade. One lacking continuity, but an upgrade nonetheless.

Just to kill some time before announcements come out, what do you guys think of the facades in general?

My one seed is either No Vacancy or Zombie High. Also a big fan of Cornstalkers and Club Blood. Slaughterhouse is pretty solid. Doll Factory is terrible for such a good maze. Maze of Madness isn't great. I guess Outbreak doesn't really have one. Same with Blue Ridge.

Thoughts?

Am I the only one who doesn't like the MoM facade. It's basically medieval macabres with a few bricks and that shock chair. Also I am actually very excited for this new maze. Because the mazes that go into the FOF building are all KD's design and all the rest of the mazes in park are corporate (except blue ridge and the mazes that used to be in WWC que). I can't wait to see/ hear about what maze they are putting in. But there is only so much you can do in the FOF building both theming wise and layout. But I hope somehow they pull of something amazing.
where do you get your inside info from?

Club blood has gotten pretty stale, along with Outbreak. Outbreak could have potential aside from the large banner, they could easily do some more with the extended FoF queue before you enter the building.

Slaughter House's facade lack of scale kind of bugs me, and aside from the front part it's rather bland. You enter from the side of a long black wall.

Zombie High, No Vacancy and Cornstalkers are stellar.

Doll Factory makes up for it with the great maze housed inside.

Old Virginia is in need of a new maze. I've always felt a maze in Sheandoah Log Comanpay's queue would be a cool location, but it's very difficult since you can't turn around due to the narrow line.

White Water Canyon's queue could be reused, I noticed a gravel access road that goes around the house by the station. That could potentially be built up and go through the woods as an extension and back around through the exit. But, I guess that's just a pipe dream.

There is not much they can do with doll factory facade since it is smack in the middle of planet snoopy. I think KD should do something like knotts did to their doll factory.

Steve the haunt guy. And other haunt employees

Do you work at haunt and who are the employees that know this much info?

I like the new facade for Club Blood that they added last year. I didn't like the old set up since there wasn't much going on, but the new one is pretty great.

Local Richmond NBC TV affiliate posted this on their web site.

Haunt Hiring

Quick Synopsis:

  • Haunt Job Fair this Saturday the 15th.
  • Park budgeted for 900 folks.
  • 600 folks for scare-actors/support staff.
  • 300 folks for regular in-park positions (rides, food, merchandise).
  • 8 Mazes.
  • 6 Scare Zones.
  • 7 Live Shows.

Haunt Hiring

Is 600 enough for actors in the mazes, and in the territories? That number seems kind of low.

Edit: Only 8 mazes? Last year was 9. Guess nothing is replacing outbreak...

John, I think we had the same concern last year regarding the number of houses. I believe the source Mwhinva posted does not include Blue Ridge Bloodbath as a house.

Also, 600 is the same number of people that the park had last year, according to a press release.

Keep in mind that the 600 positions include support staff (make-up artists, costume folks, the people who manage the maze lines and maze entry/exits). Might as well include the extra security folks who work the park's entrance and monitor the park's Haunt attractions. But, even for all those positions, I can't see more that 110-120 of those being support staff.

Not sure what maze was dropped for this year. Course, the park has had a hard time staffing the Haunt Attractions over the last year or two. Maybe they rather properly staff what is left, than having too many mazes/scare-zones and being sparsely staffed on each. (Though, I wish they were back up to 9 or 10 mazes given the crowds; especially on Saturdays).

I am a little leery of taking too much in the media as hard cold facts. The job fair date, yes. But, what they reported as the 2015 Haunt attraction count, could be inaccurate. I would not think the park would release that much detail until early September (web site info).
