Yep. Put there explicitly because B&M would not build the ride if they didn’t put that cage there. Skyride is the reason for that cage.
I’d like it more if they had ever bothered to theme it or even just grow vines on it.
Neat quirk. I wonder why they didn't require on the hill that jumps into the splash section, as it crosses under the skyride there as well.
Technically... a train can stop under the cage as there is a brake there. Mag brake but brake nonetheless. When, a million to one chance, the Griffon train stops there, the skyride gondolas can also stop there. God forbid a trillion to one, the skyride decouples from the rope and falls directly onto the Griffon train. That's why the cage is there.
If a train stops under the cage something has gone very wrong. A magnetic break cannot hold a train still, as it's breaking force drops off as the train slows. Anyway the breaks do not start until the end of the cage, here is a screenshot I stole from Coaster Force's YouTube POV.
I think the more likely answer for the cable's existance is cable droop. For instance, what would happen if proceedures were not followed and five loaded gondolas were released from the France Skyride station while there was no weight on the rest of the cable?

If you wanna include the balloon test for the ride, that happened February 2006. Construction markers and flags started popping up around the Le Mans site shortly after park opening that season. I purposely rode Le Mans on each visit that spring and early summer just to see them.
