RE: BGW Food and Wine Festival 2014

Is it possible to build a full stand there? The terrain is very uneven and I'm not sure there are proper utilities near there.

The coke marketplace would work better, it has the existing food prep facilities and the theme could match a few selections listed.

I was thinking that perhaps if they decide to keep pirates for Howl-o-Scream, they might put that caribbean booth in Italy, that way the booth can be reused for Howl-o-Scream since it would already be themed to the caribbean pirates which is what I felt they were trying to go for.

But as for the Wild Reserve, I think they could put a booth behind the theater seating, right in front of the Aviary. there is quite some space there, if they move the stroller parking. Or perhaps where they used to have the snack stand across from the Wolf Haven theater. If memory serves me right, they had a handimals stand there last year, but in years prior they had some type of lemonade stand or snack stand there.

Not sure if this was mentioned already, but there is a decent spot in Festa that is nice and flat with utilities readily available nearby (I think). I realize that it may suffer the same problems as the previous occupant had as far as being in a dead end, but what if it was good and popular enough to draw people in who look at the map and are able to find it. Maybe it could be a super-special kiosk for uber fans, or the Secret Society of Vegetarians. What is the magical spot you say?

I would guess that the best place would be near Pet Shenanigans. There is already a drink cart there and a nice flat area roped off where they used to take photos with the animals after the show. Haven't seen that used for a while.

That's a bit of a ways away from any major buildings. Would that have the infrastructure required for a food booth like that like drainage?

What about crowds? That area gets congested as it is. To have a booth with lines and an eating area with standing tables, would be a nightmare to try to relax and easy the food there. Look at Pompeii/Greece last year.

I mean, I guess it's possible, but aren't there any more practicle locations?

If they had Thai food, it would fit perfectly in the garden section of the Wild Reserve. Very already looks close enough to run Asian garden, all they need to do is change the existing gazebo a little bit and voilà! You have a Thai food booth. To be honest, I love Thai food, but the only problem is that this area doesn't have any artificial lighting. I'm not sure the park would use any artificial lights in that area. However, it would look beautiful to have some Asian paper lanterns hanging in the trees for lighting.

Personally, my take on the Food & Wine Festival is that the whole purpose for the event is for guests to try new foods that aren't at the park. It is an opportunity to teach guests about food.

This comment is not meant as an attack, and I understand that you are clear it i s your opinion. I'd like to provide an opposing view.

I don't think the F&WF is about teaching anyone anything. That assessment feels very condescending.

I believe it is an event designed to reach out to people who already have an interest and varied taste in food, in other words, I think the event is targeting foodies, like myself. I believe Epcot's is the same concept (but I could be totally mistaken; I'm not a huge fan of anything Disney).

I consider the usual BGW food to be on a range from bad to boring. Some of it is fine, but I certainly wouldn't go to the park for the food. The recent culinary events, however, have motivated me to trek down to Williamsburg for an "extra" visit, because I can't resist fun food.

My guess is that the park hopes to expand beyond their normal clientele, by offering an experience they couldn't usually get at BGW. I don't think they are trying to "teach" the regular guests anything.

As for the theming question. Yes, I believe they need to stick to Europe. I'm not sure if they need to match all of the food explicitly with existing hamlest, but Caribbean and Thai make little to no sense to me. I still think Indian is really British, and would be just fine in Banbury Cross. I also still advocate a tea shop in Banbury Cross, but that is not on the list, so it is beside the point.

Just my opnions…

I respect that, and I believe that that could be a primary goal, however I still think teaching guests is a goal, even if it is a secondary goal. I'm sure there were some regular guests who were more educated in food because of the event.

As far as Indian goes, that is just as European as Caribbean. Both of those places were heavily colonized by European nations at sometime in history; therefore, they both are equally fitting. I will agree Thai isn't as European as the other options.

Caribbean, and Indian aren't as fitting as a European Country would be. They may fit, but they won't fit in as much as another European country would. And if teaching the guest was a goal at the F&WF, then I surely must have been blind, because I didn't learn a thing, and wasn't even told anything that I could learn. For me it was what they said it was going to be, a culinary tour of Europe.(which I'm fine with it only being that)

I know I've already mentioned I think Switzerland should be added, but I just wanted to say how good a fit it would be for bistro 205. I was just there and the food is phenomenal. Fondue and raclette and rosti. They have German and French and Italian influences plus there own touch. And all the cheeses... They are amazing. Then there is the chocolate. Not having Switzerland in a European park is a shame. Switzerland is as European as it gets! Just my thoughts.

Which European countries were left out in last year's event? If I recall, they had dishes from all the hamlets and the major (known to most American) European countries (sans Russia, but plus Canada). Germany got two booths as well.

The park should pull one of the Germany booths and move that selection to the remaining one. That leaves one empty booth (maybe make that one Russian cuisine).

I want to clarify my position on Indian food, since I have seen it misconstrued several times now.

I am not saying that Indian might work because it was a British colony. I am saying that a British/Indian fusion, for lack of a better word, has developed in Britain. It is a distinct flavor, not entirely the same as Indian food that you would find on the Subcontinent. It has become as British as fish and chips, in many ways. You will find curry houses all over London.

I am not saying that being a British colony makes it relevant. I am saying that it's having become part of British culture, itself, makes it an arguable point.

And once again for clarity, I think their list was silly, and was simply identifying what among those choices might be feasible.

Looks like we will be seeing a Caribbean Booth...

Glad I will be in the actual Caribbean while this is going on and not having "Caribbean in Europe."

There are a couple people who commented on Instagram, "the Caribbean is in Europe?!" I think a couple people are confused about this....
