With one weekend of food and wine left, I think it's safe to say the event has been a huge success this year. I think it will be interesting to see what changes they'll have in store for next year. It's pure speculation, but I think the success of this year may well justify some fairly significant expansion next year. Only time will tell. Next thing to pay attention to will be SEAS Q2 fiscal results (sometime around the 2nd week of July) which may very well include some mention of the F&W results from this year.

I tend to agree. It certainly seems that Food and Wine has been busier this year than any other year. I definitely think that we could see them adding some more booths next year.

On a different note the second quarter results should be available sometime at the beginning of August. There's normally a little more than a month between then end of the quarter and earnings calls.

@BGWnut I was just going off the last earnings report being 16 April and Mid-July being 3 months after.

It would be interesting to see results broken down so you could see alcohol sales separate from food sales. I've heard a couple of complaints about how much alcohol has been available during F&W this year.

Who is registering this complaint? What is their concern?

Honestly, for as much alcohol as the park sells during F&W, I have yet to witness or hear about any substantial number of guests incident at the park that seemed somewhat attributable to intoxication. I'm sure it must happen sometimes. But I'm sure it also must have occasionally happened before the park even had the F&W event.

Surprisingly low-key for an event where tens of thousands of people have ready access to $10-11 intoxicants for hours on end. Comparing that to pro sports... it really does seem to be all about clientele, environment, and expectations.

My friend Pedantic Pete would say, "That's all any event business is about," but there's still something there worth mentioning and observing. And Pete is a jerk.

The first quarter earnings call was on May 7th. The press release announcing when the earnings call would be is dated April 16th.

I'm interested in what specifically they were complaining about. To me it seems that an event where an alcoholic beverage is in the name there is an assumption that there will be a lot of alcohol available.

With the apparent success of this years F&W, do you ever see the possibility of expanding to selected weekdays? In particular, something like the last week in June when weekday crowds will be larger? I managed to be able to get to the park for a couple of days this week and kind of bummed that won't get to enjoy the food.

My guess would be no. I think it's more likely they add more weekends than weekdays. Currently they use the weekdays to do as much of the prep work as they can.

Well, I see my comments are stirring up controversy as usual. I don't know why I bother. I overheard several people at several different kiosks making comments like, "there seems to be more alcohol choices than food". My niece said something similar yesterday. I don't care one way or the other personally. I get my beer at the Bierhaus. I seem to recall when this thread was started and the menus were announced some posters made comments about the alcohol to food ratio. I just think it would be an interesting fact to know whether people were in line at the kiosks to buy alcohol or food. I'm sure most people were probably buying both. Oh well, fire away. I'm sure I've stirred up more controversy for just plainly asking a question. No wonder people are turning away from social media. I guess it's your way or the highway.

@Rothbury,

You seem to be taking the response personally. I believe what you are seeing is belief that it is odd to object the amount of alcohol being served at a wine event at a beer park. I'm not sure why that offends you? You never said it was your opinion, and I don't see where anyone responded as if you, personally, were wrong about anything. Everyone is free to have differing viewpoints. No one should get upset that others don't agree, however.

That said, I do not think your initial post was clear. I know I didn't understand that the issue was the ratio of food to alcohol. I thought you meant meant that people were commenting on exclusively on the amount of alcohol, independent of the food.

Given your clarification, I completely agree. The "Food & Wine" event seems to have a strangely disproportionate number of cocktails and beer, compared with either food or wine. I think it is a shame that they have cut so many dishes, in fact.
