A common complaint seems to be that the queue is inappropriately themed, but I don't understand this complaint. The flight occurs on a magic sled of sorts and its departure and arrive occurs within an Irish castle.

Kind of. :s

I have no problem with the "underground castle" queue concept. In fact, I think it's pretty cool. But the queue video should tell a story of a "magic sled" or something. They don't. You're basically looking at a standard airport reservation desk, and booking a tour flight on some modern new jet ("Slipstream 3000" ?). Seems incredibly out of place to have that "story" set in the basement of a castle in the Irish hillside.

A cooler story would be something like you being invited to be test passengers on some sort of top secret experimental glider or whatever, and have the story screens explain that to you. And actually have some sort of video in the boarding screen instead of just a bunch of motionless dots.

I could go on and on...

Its a decent concept, but very poorly done. It certainly does not fit in Ireland at all. I think its a cheap rip off of WDW's soaring which is fantastic. As a hang glider pilot there are times on soaring that feel very real. The timing of the ride movements and screen are spot on.
The ride movements on Europe in the air are not like any aircraft on this planet, the way the scenes change is rough and choppy.
Its sad, because in the past there were rides there that were better suited to the area and more fun to experiance. JMO

There must be a pretty damn good reason why it's mentioned in the surveys you get on the way out of park.

Just because it's mentioned in a survey doesn't mean they have plans for it. After all, I do recall a survey had mentioned paying for Howl-o-Scream and having Christmas Town free and that didn't happen.
