There probably was, a lot of the effects have been removed or dulled over the years out of budgetary reasons or just sheer laziness. I didn't start riding the attraction until 2006, but would love to learn about more of the effects and details major and minor that have been removed over the years.

I hope that during the next off season, Pompeii gets a full effects rehab.

The dancing lights at the beginning, fireballs, toppling statue, burning pots, and fire ceiling to me are the most critical - everything else should be fixed up but as a lesser priority IMO

I’m starting to wonder if he’s just referring to the light from the outside room flooding the room when the trap door before the drop burst open. Back in the days when the door worked consistently, the sudden flash of light from the outside world was blinding.

Yup, if you're looking at the building from the ground it's to the right of the drop hidden behind a screen.

It’s basically there so they can watch the people standing near the soak zone. If anyone leans over the rail, and looks like they might jump into the water basin; the ride op can stop the ride before it goes down the drop.

edit: While I’m sure the music would get annoying after a while, EFP, in my opinion has some of the most breathtaking ride op views.
