Currently at Kings Island for the week and got a chance to go up in their tower. Got a chance to chat with the elevator op who was super knowledgable and awesome, and she was talking about how their tower has been having a host of mechanical issues as well. They were only operating the elevator at very slow crawl of speed. According to her, Kings Dominion has been shipping some parts up to Kings Island to keep their tower at least functional, she said that Kings Dominion is slated to get two brand new elevators next season and then they will send all the remaining parts from the old elevators to Ohio for their tower to use. If everything she said was true, it looks like the Eiffel Tower in Richmond will be staying closed through the rest of the season but should open sometime next year with new elevators.

If true, that could be huge. I wonder if they could add a stop at the lower level as well? That has always been a dream of mine—it seems like it could be invaluable for VIP and upcharge events like premium dines, fireworks viewing, etc. If they want to be super daring, they could even put the Prestige lounge there—I have a feeling that would be a lounge people would actually upgrade for!

I have heard rumors of a possible new use for the tower for the 50th.
What do you mean? It would only ever be used as an observation platform (if it's ever fixed) or landmark icon. Unless you are referring to new lights or small pyrotechnics, which would go with the new night time show. I think that was a given though wasn't it?

That's the elevator that goes to the lower platform, probably just them working on lights. It's not uncommon to see maintenance riding it during the week.
Speaking of the lower platform, anyone know why they don't use that anymore and when was the last time? I haven't seen that used in ages.
