Speaking of the lower platform, anyone know why they don't use that anymore and when was the last time? I haven't seen that used in ages.
Oh I just meant the lower of the two platforms at the top, I don't think any elevator can directly serve the 50ft platform. Maintenance does use the 50ft platform when they need to get on top of the elevator tho

Using both observation platforms requires using five employees, using only one only requires three. The upper platform is preferred by guests due to being higher. Sometime they would use the lower platform on rainy days (assuming no excess wind or lightining).

The lower of the top was the one I was referring to not the 50 ft one. Sorry I should've been more specific. But I definitely remember the lower of the top two being used back in at least 2008 as I have a picture of it being used. However I can't remember seeing being used afterwards. I've actually never been on the lower deck.

Gotcha, that makes sense.

Correction: When there is one platform in use, they only need 2 employees. One in elevator and one on platform. When two platforms are used, they need 4 employees. 1 in each elevator and 1 on each platform. Technically, there could be a 5th person as "Queuer", but there is almost zero reason to Eiffel Tower to ever use this position. However, the minimum required to operate is 1 in elevator and 1 on platform.

West elevator (lower platform) is not used often because it was/is always the more unreliable elevator. East (upper platform) was always the more reliable of two. Rainy days, they would operate the West, but it usually would go down multiple times a day even the small amount of times it was used.

In order for the tower to operate, both elevators have to be operational in the case one goes down, they can transfer guests to the opposite platform and use the other elevator to get back down. In the event the elevator gets stuck on the way up/down, then they could do an elevator transfer where ever the elevator stopped.

The lower deck and left elevator were in use as recently as 2014:

To those who attended the ACE Mid-Atlantic event, was anything mentioned about Eiffel Tower returning this season?
No and they didn't take question on any subjects. In fact the few attempts made by me and others to ask staff present about other things were almost always deflected with "We are here to show you Rapterra and Pantherian today" The only exception that I personally witnessed to limiting all conversations to the two was that a few questions on Flight of Fear were answered as we walked past.

Yikes…..

To clarify that No wasn't a no it won't open but a no they wouldn't discuss it. I asked two different people and both times got thr answer that they were only to talk about Rapterra and Pantherian. Also not pictures were allowed in any areas but the JungleX area. That said there was still the white construction fence around the base of the tower and nothing there appeared changed. But to be fair many lights and Winterfest and items from Winterfest were also still up so it could still be coming down by opening day.

Still a Yikes. The unwilling to talk about anything else seems concerning to me.
