Der Wirbelwind has been taken down. Do they completely dismantle it every off season or only if there is major repairs needed. Didn't they recently paint it and give it a new vinyl top in the past 3 years?
It's taken down every off-season. If you could walk the park right now you would see any number of rides in various stages of dismantling. It's part of the annual preventative maintenance.

On a side note. I wouldn't want to be that TM right now. TMs aren't supposed to post pictures like this for a reason. He's going to certainly be in some trouble.

To be fair, it is an older ride and was once designed to be used for traveling carnivals and such (don't know if this particular one was actually portable), so my guess is periodic overhauls aren't too uncommon.

Does anyone know if they do this to the Wave Swinger at KD?

Those kiddie swings, while historically interesting, gave the slowest and most boring ride experience in the park. My kids rode it once apiece and then scoffed at it at age 2-3. The coin-operated fiberglass horses at the mall are substantially more exciting.

I was terrified of rides like Der Wirbelwind as a small child. That’s hard to believe now, since I ride everything. On the other hand, one of my nephews (who seems to be terrified of heights) rode Wirbelwindchen when he was a toddler, and he kept looking over at Der Wirbelwind like he wanted to ride that instead. Of course, I don’t really know what he was thinking/wanted, but I guess you can never assume at that age wether or not someone will grow up to like rides.

Yes, boring rides have a place. For example, I was the kind of kid who would be overwhelmed if not traumatized by anything with forces. Better to have the boring ride to desensitize the kid, rather than to create a bag-holder-for-the-rest-of-the-group when they grow up.

Perhaps not every kid needs to go to amusement parks for fun. I'm not sure why a child needs to learn to enjoy something that is 100% recreational. There are many fun things for kids that don't involve heights or forces.

as a very young child, before I could ride anything larger, I loved the ride. I have no recollection of this but there are pictures. According to my grandparents I would ride this thing over and over and wave every time I went around. This was when I was maybe 2 or 3. It's important to remember that few if any rides at busch were accessible for young children like that.

What I laugh at is people on FB assuming that swings was removed permanently...

I think that's a BGW Social Media team problem to not ensure the post was properly explained. Like even if it's someone else post, they need to correct wrong comments.
