Just out of curiosity, does anybody know who made the original Festhaus stage? I know that the control panel for the lift looked like ride controls. Could a ride manufacturer have built it?

It could be a theory, but I think maybe Arrow Dynamics made the lift that takes the band up and the park designed and built the standing stage in house.

So has anybody heard of anything that's going on in the Festhaus? Either it be stage, table, floor, or decor changes?

From an email today regarding Nessie's 40th anniversary.

"Guest 21+ can enjoy 2 beers for only $.40 each visit June 6 - August 12 at Das Festhaus."

Is this for real?

From an email today regarding Nessie's 40th anniversary.

"Guest 21+ can enjoy 2 beers for only $.40 each visit June 6 - August 12 at Das Festhaus."

Is this for real?

When I showed up yesterday, the first ride I went on was Loch Ness Monster. While walking through the queue, I saw a banner saying "40 cent beer". In a stoned daze I asked the employee at the front of the ride "is that 40 cent beer poster real". He said "No, I think it was only valid for the actual date of the 40th anniversary I think it's over".

I then headed over to the Festhaus and saw the same banner and decided to do some investigating. I asked the first employee in sight if this 40 cent beer was real. She said yes, and to go inside the Festhaus and to go to the way back. I went and saw what the gimmick was. You get a 7 oz of whatever piss water light beer they have hooked up for 40 cents, and can get two. Not bad for 80 cents, 14 oz of piss water... basically a serving of alcohol for under a dollar at Busch Gardens. Wish they would have just made it a solid 12 oz for 40 cents though.

We did, however, try to game the system. We washed off the "x's" they mark your wrist with and hoped that a different employee would be there upon returning. There wasn't. So we tried to play stupid and act like we hadn't been up there before. It did not work. She said she remembered serving us beer an hour ago and we clearly washed the X's off. Oh well. Maybe you can get some in the early afternoon then different employees will be there later at night. Did not work well, if you're trying this method it won't work.

EDIT: I'd also like to add I believe this marketing scheme is a bit of a bait and switch. I didn't plan on drinking, but once I felt that slight buzz off the 14 oz's I caved in and spent 10 bucks on a 20 oz of a proper IPA. So basically their plan worked. Half of me is pissed that they fooled me, but half of me commends them for their hard work in suckering me in.

1. Since you seemed to have missed several hints... the fact that you are illegally high in a family theme park is not an interesting addition to your stories.

2. Recommendations for how to cheat the system and effectively attempt to steal from the park are not useful contributions to our Forum.

Sorry, I genuinely wasn't trying to bring negative energy to the forums. I was under the impression from the posts I read on this site that there was a love/hate relationship with the park... distaste for the new direction of the company and its policies and decisions. I thought my behavior would be positive, like, "stoney's back at it sticking it to the man!" Like a champion of Busch Garden's past ways celebrating how cheaper and less complicated the park was in the past. Bringing that same energy to the table and getting my moneys worth.

I already paid 20 dollars in parking (the last time I paid parking I SWEAR it was only 12... 15 seemed high for me, but 20 solid dollars?????). Anyway that might be a rant for a different forum. I'll stop mentioning the stonedness or any schemes in the future.

We welcome any and all views on parking fees or anything else about BGW—positive or negative. Frankly, I don't even have a problem with you being stoned at BGW or wherever else as long as you're not bothering anyone.

That said, bragging about doing something illigal all the time—especially outside of designated smoking areas in a family theme park—was leaving a bad taste in a lot of people's mouths.

Plus, BGW reads this forum and some people have expressed that they think having someone bragging about smoking pot inside the park makes the forum, as a whole, look really bad.

Anyway, you do you—just consider the points above when you post about it.

Speaking of Das Festhaus and the Beir Garden....anyone else (of age) disappointed with the selection this year? I can say I personally very much am. As a fan of lagers, stouts, and (standard) ales; they have had way too many IPA's, hoppy wheat brews, and the like.

In addition to that I do wish they could come up with a really nice outdoor spot for us to sit.

I also wish they would do a system like RVA Draft Room:

You link a credit card to the pour card. So the idea is you can try as little or up to a pint of any of the selections so that if you don't like it you didn't get a full glass of something you didn't like! You get charged by the ounce, so the park can still really make money on this. And at taphouses with this system it cuts you off every 24 oz (2 pints) where you have to check in so they can make sure you aren't over drinking.

I'm surprised we have never had many discussions about the history of about Das Festhaus and general trivia about the building. Here are some questions that I have come up with and I wonder if anybody here would know the answers.

-Who designed the murals and facades? (And who was in charge of spelling? ?)
-Who manufactured the old rising stage? (It had a control system much like a flat ride.)
-How long was Das Festhaus in the works? (I can't imagine it was all designed in one year.)

I think Das Festhaus is one of the most fascinating buildings in the park and I would love to know more about its history.

Eh, I see where you're coming from but they magically always have the "Beer of the summer" for me. Last year I was all about Loose Cannon, this year I'm all about O Connor's El Guapo. Had no idea they had it on tap until I stumbled in. I saw this badass band Of Montreal at O Connor's Brewing Company a couple months back and we went ham on their El Guapo... having it at busch gardens made my entire visit worth it :) But Stoney is an IPA type of fellow.

We went Friday and ate dinner at Das Festhaus. The food was horrible!!! It had been a few years since we ate there and the food quality has gone WAY downhill. It took several doses of Imodium to finally get my stomach right. I had the German sampler and she had the Festhaus sampler and we both got ill. Will not eat there again!!

We were there Sunday. While no one got ill, I have to agree the offerings bordered on terrible and highly overpriced for what you received. I'm not expecting gourmet, but a turkey (5 oz at best) and cheese (1 thin slice) "sub" sandwich served on a stale roll isn't worth the money they charged. Even my favorite carrot cake was on the stale side. Festhaus is not the Besthaus to eat.
