We were there Sunday. While no one got ill, I have to agree the offerings bordered on terrible and highly overpriced for what you received. I'm not expecting gourmet, but a turkey (5 oz at best) and cheese (1 thin slice) "sub" sandwich served on a stale roll isn't worth the money they charged. Even my favorite carrot cake was on the stale side. Festhaus is not the Besthaus to eat.

i love the pun ? "Festhaus is not the Besthaus to eat."

It's usually WAY more than 5oz of meat and two thick triangles of cheese on those turkey sandwiches. They are our go-to for hot days. It sounds as if they have had a bad weekend of it. I have never had a bad one there so this leaves me curious as to what may have occurred.

I've had similar intestinal experiences this summer after eating at the festhaus. Sadly, this was once my go to spot for an affordable meal in the park. Unless I'm in a hurry, I have taken to leaving the park for meals to eat at the Subway, up the road. And I can highly recommend the Chinese restaurant across the street by Wendy's. Leaving the park for an hour to eat is better than paying more for less food, then spending half an hour in the restroom.

As far as theme park food goes, I have always thought BGW as a whole has done pretty darn well. Most places give up and just have chains inside the park. Gotta give them some credit.

Maybe I already have Sauerkraut and red cabbage enzymes in my system because DFH has never made me feel bad. However, they have always been inconsistent with the typical German spices that are supposed to prevent any digestive trouble, such as juniper berries. Sometimes they have it, sometimes they don't.

My German godmother always asks me how things are nowadays in DFH since apparently German food at the park has been somewhat of an issue since day one. ?

Eh, I see where you're coming from but they magically always have the "Beer of the summer" for me. Last year I was all about Loose Cannon, this year I'm all about O Connor's El Guapo. Had no idea they had it on tap until I stumbled in. I saw this badass band Of Montreal at O Connor's Brewing Company a couple months back and we went ham on their El Guapo... having it at busch gardens made my entire visit worth it :) But Stoney is an IPA type of fellow.

Of Montreal.....are you talking about the band that sounds like neutral milk hotel apparently? I've never listened to them but have heard that comparison.

I just wanted to commend the Festhaus staff that I dealt with today. Went through one of the lines to get food and every staff member I spoke to was extremely friendly and helpful. Seems like in recent years, culinary staff member friendliness was fine, but could use some improvements. I work in a job centered around customer service so I know it's extremely hard to keep a good attitude up at all times so I never expect anything more than just them giving me what I need and moving on to the next, but today, everyone from the guy serving the side items/pizza to the lady attending the soda station, to the cashier, they were all incredibly nice and attentive which I always appreciate.

OK. What's the deal with the hot dogs at the Festhaus? I know they're not weisswusrt, so why are they so pale?

They are steamed in water which doesn't lend much color to them. Also I think just in general the uncooked hot dogs don't have a lot of color in them.

because nothing says, mummm mummm good like boiled hot dogs of questionable origin. The only time water cooked hot dogs are acceptable is when they come out of stagnant cart water and are produced by a know hotdog stand brand.

Further the correct toppings are chopped onion, chili, and mustard. AKA Norfolk Style. (Sourkraut is also acceptable)

I’ve seen hot dogs get made, so I will never ruin it for anyone that likes them, but add on the questionably cooked hot dog on top of that and it’s a hard pass from me.

Bob Bauman, man. A life lived.

Serious question, maybe for another thread. Is there any celebration of the guy in the park? Is there something on the wall of the Festhaus?
