New Years Eve parties don't need fireworks.

They need a count down, appropriate music, and something visual like a ball drop.  Plus they need bars and hors-d'oeuvres.

I know it would NEVER happen but I wish they'd run Loch Ness during Christmas Town. I had a pass to KD this past season so it's been over a year since my last ride on Nessy and I am well into withdrawal. :(

Don't worry.. I rode Nessy 6 times on our trip. That should make up for it. :)

I thought that given it's age Nessie'a trains got and needed extra tlc during the off season.

Does this open up the possibility of finally having a New Years Event? Just curious - I've always seen it as a lost opportunity. It obviously would be a risk the first year, however if word got around that the event was successful...
As of right now the schedule posted on the Christmas town website shows a 9 closing time for new years so it looks like no.

Well that deescalated quickly.

I really hope it's not the $12 deal; it just made a mess of the event. Not enough staff, extremely crowded inside and outside the park. I would like to see maybe better discount days for pass holders or maybe a free "limited edition" Christmastown ornament.

I completely get what you're saying. Having inadequate staffing leads to low customer satisfaction, which means less repeat visitors and referrals. This must not happen, or, at least, hardly ever (I guess freak high crowds on an expected low crowd day will sometimes just happen for no reason).

But, they apparently marked roughly half the Christmastown operating days as non-peak days. So, if they correctly anticipate the resulting crowds from $12 days, and if they staff appropriately, then $12 days are great for the park. The additional revenue generated from changing low attendance operating days to high attendance days for roughly half the days the park is open is hardly insignificant.

Successful implementation of lower ticket prices on what otherwise would be off-peak days could go a long way to expanding Christmastown and increasing the available attractions. Why expand when the park is more than adequate for half the days they are open? But, if they are bursting at the seams on all but bad weather days...

So, Ristorante della Piazza will be closed for renovation during Christmastown. They are also renovating the bathrooms near there. But, will those bathrooms be open during Christmastown? If not, there will be no facilities between Das Festhaus and Scotland! D-:

Makes sense to keep the restrooms open. It's only for 6 weeks. All they have to do is fence off the restaurant and go to work.

A problem is the park won't be as well staffed as the summer due to the international exchange students going back and school being back in takes a hit on staffing. I understand BG wanting people in the gates and the need to make a profit but at what cost. You turn away the regular visiting guests who tend to spend a lot in the park and if they do attend the crowds are overwhelming they don't spend. I agree they should have an incentive for going to the park traditionally slow days but not this way. It just ends up being bad business by creating angry guests.

My understanding is that the park believes that pass holders don't spend as much in the park as normal guests.

I have no idea if there is any evidence for this perception, but I can see the logic. Local pass holders generally don't spend an entire day at the park; they visit for a few hours at a time. Thus, they could be less likely to buy food, while they are there. Additionally, I would imagine that pass holders are less inclined to want or need souvenirs from their visits.

Another thing to consider: while small crowds are more pleasant for us as guests, they are terrible for the park. "Capacity" should be exactly that: how many people the park can reasonably accommodate. No one questions lines and crowds in Orlando parks; it is just a reality, when you go there. It doesn't really make sense to hold a major regional park to a different standard, in my opinion.

EDIT: One last thought.

While no one wants to be in a crowded theme park, empty venues go out of business.

On a slightly different topic, does anybody know the current status on village performers? I love all of the village performers, and last year I missed the Killarney Village Carolers, and The Harald Angels Band in Holiday Hills. I hope they are returning.

On a side note, the map no longer says that Polar Pathway is presented by Coca-Cola. I will be so glad if that area is liberated from blatant sponsorship.

$14 Twinkle Tickets go on sale Nov. 13 - can only be used once on any select day, btw there are like 14 select days

Just for comparison, Christmastown runs 29 days this year.

By making the park have high capacity days throughout the event, they can also have equal levels of staffing for the entire event. This might be easier for them than having high staffing days and low staffing days.

Twinkle ticket days are:

Nov. 29
Dec. 4, 6, 11, 14, 15, 16, 17, 21, 24, 30, 31
Jan. 1, 3

Sale of these tickets is Nov. 13-17, online only.

Edited To Add: I agree with Nicole that it's unfair to hold BGW to a different standard than the major Florida parks, where no one bats an eye at long lines/crowds etc. Of course they should try to adequately staff the park for the larger crowds this deal brings out but overall I'd rather see the park full than deserted.
