Can we keep the personal issue comments with others that seem to be more and more prevalent over the last few days in PMs or something? Thanks.

BTW, this group-think mentality of "WE" is a little disconcerting. CK has his own opinions and nobody speaks for me; also I don't speak for the community. Can't we all just get along? :p

Now CHECK THIS OUT...

The fireplace has lights, which require electrical power. There are a couple ways to transmit power through a rotating joint, like the pivot around which the fireplace turns. The first is to use a slip ring. This is something like your headphone jack. It has wipers that allow electrical signal transmission even when the center is rotated infinitely. The trouble with slip rings is that ones rated for transmitting any significant power are expensive. (They also eventually wear out.) The cheap way is just to run cables up through the joint. With this method, the number of turns is limited before you need to reverse and untwist the cables.

If you notice, on the side of the stage opposite the food, there is a control station for the fireplace. During shows, an operator runs the fireplace. This station also has a video monitor displaying the picture from a camera hanging directly above the fireplace, looking down. For a unique view of the show, you can sit by the operator and watch the show from above. I've got a video clip at home I can post later. After the show, the operator runs the fireplace backward the right number of turns to untwist the cables that power the fireplace lights and fire effect.

Thanks for the information! My husband suspected that might have been the reason why it was rotating. I'll have to let him know he was right. :p

CK is right about the chicken and funnel cake (it's sold in the funnel cake shop over in Rhinefield, near the carousel). I am seriously in love with that combo. Since I'm walking miles and miles when I'm at the park, I don't feel too bad about scarfing it down either.

So...trying to understand.

My husband and I have the Christmas Town pass. My daughter doesn't, but she has a regular Platinum pass.

So, it would be cheaper to buy her CT ticket with this offer, than using her Platinum discount?

Does that seem odd to anyone else. If this had been an incentive a few weeks ago, it might have been a clever way to sell more CT passes. Now it just looks unfair to Platinum pass holders.

The Pass Price for CT tickets is $20, the discounted ticket price with this deal is $15. You would save $5.00 with this deal.

Just keep in mind that if she is only visiting one day, this is the deal for you. If she is visiting more than one day, the Christmas Town Pass is the better deal.

Honestly, I did expect something like this is roll out. The VP of Marketing did say that there would be no deep deals this year; however, they will throw out good deals if they need to.

If we decide to give it a try, I'll report back here.

As for the ham, as a matter of fact, my wife was born in the Year of the Pig (Chinese zodiac). So, if we go...

If anyone is interested, I will be at the 1 pm penguin tour and the back in the park when it opens tomorrow (Sunday).

Also, what time has the parking lot been opening? And, what time do they let you into England?

Thanks again!

Depending on the crowd the park expects, it will either be 1PM to 2PM when parking opens, England opening about 15 to 30 minutes after the toll plaza opens.

I went to the park today. Pretty dead as expected.

So, either half the lights shorted out over the week or they just didn't care enough to turn them on. Half of San Marco's tree's lights were out/not on. I counted 5-6 trees that fell over and weren't picked up. Half of Oktoberfest's bridge's decorations over by Rhinefeld were out/not on. Half of the Train's course's trees were out/not on. Half of England's trees were out/not on. Half of Wild Reserve's trees were out/not on. The area with Santa's sleigh and reindeer in Aquitaine was out/not on completely. Stars were out/not on in both the entrance, and Heatherdowns. And the list goes on and on. Just because there were few people in the park, doesn't mean quality isn't important. It was getting a bit ridiculous seeing the light displays out everywhere around the park.

Both Nacht Tower and Verbolten were up and running though.

That is interesting as at least in the Hampton Roads area- the wind was not that bad. Was the skyride still running?

Matthew, that sounds more like an outing problem. I highly doubt they would ever leave lights off on purpose. That is something that is definitely worthy of a complaint to GR. Being that those lights are supposed to be on regardless of attendance. maybe they should have a sign saying "Lights Temporarily Out of Service Today" for those who bought single day tickets that don't want to enter the park and waste their ticket because they missed out on major areas without lights.

BTW, something that I have always found to be a slight pet peeve of mine is that in Scotland those are stars and people call them snowflakes. Really they are supposed to be stars. The snowflakes are in the park entrance area. Just a sight pet peeve of mine.

Yes it was. The wind wasn't that bad at all
really, neither was the temp. The only problem was the rain. But from what an employee told me at the front of the park when we got there around 4:30 there were already 2,000 people in the park. Which was surprising to me.

You just had to be there though here's a couple more things with lights that popped into my head, so I can give you an even bigger taste of just how many were out.

Holiday Hills trees were out around the bridge. Snowman's summit's decorations were all out. A couple of the signature "zig-zag" trees were out. All the trees for the train behind the RPT were out. Some Polar Pathway trees were out. O'Tannenbaum didn't start until 7:00. It was really quite overwhelming how many were out.
