RE: Christmas Town 2012 Rumors

Doesn't look like it has been updated to reflect what they announced yesterday though.

RE: Christmas Town 2012 Rumors

I don't know if this was confirmed before hand or not, but it looks like Alpengeist will be open for Christmas Town.

I don't think the ride list has been updated for this year yet so take anything on the site with a heaping spoonful of salt.

Hopefully for the coaster lovers, Verbolten and Alpengeist will be open. Or Verbolten and the Griffon.

On a side note, how come they quit running Curse of DarKastle during CT?

*PS. There's been a minor update to the site, but I'll let you all see what it is.

Curse of DarKastle did not run last year since they were giving it an extensive and greatly needed overhaul. I have no clue about this year though.

And I wonder where the new attraction will be. I'd assume Festa Italia since the name (Retro Lane) corresponds to Festa's Christmas Town theme. But do you guys think this will be on the bridge that leads to Festa, or somewhere else? Also, does anyone know what the attraction would consist of?

One last thing, I can't seem to find the Christmas Town "map" online.

RE: Christmas Town 2012 Rumors

I was told the ride lineup for this year (which some may already know but I am posting this for those who don't)... Every ride will be open this year with these exceptions: Griffon, Loch Ness, Alpengist, and Apollo :(... The skyride will be open in it's usual CT setup... V-bolt will be the coaster open this year

It's sad to know Griffon and Alpine are able to operate some during the season yet they won't open them. Does anyone know the restrictions for operating VBolt? Will it shutdown at 40 too?

I believe that the 40 degree limit is on B&M coasters only... I wouldn't know specifically seeing that I have not asked anyone I know that works there if there is a temp limit

I know it's obvious, but the water rides would be in those exceptions too, given the time of year.

So that means Curse of DarKastle will be rejoining the ride line-up this year?

RE: Christmas Town 2012 Rumors

btw logging in to this site is not fun. Now about Christmastown, Verbolten has not been verified to be the coaster open for it. They will most likely only open one coaster. They will probably not keep Verbolten open because it is a new coaster and they will want the extra time to maintenance it, which is also why I don't think they like to run the same coaster 2 winters in a row. My money's on Griffon but Apollo is also possible. Dark Castle is out by all implications too to whomever said it would be open.

RE: Christmas Town 2012 Rumors

I have my money placed on Verbolten. It is their newest ride, it is their anchor attraction for the year. They were betting on raising attendance figures with it. Verbolten is definitely a strong possibility. Griffon was pushed to the max last time they had it opened. Part of the reason it had closed for the end of the year last time it was open was a crucial part to the ride froze and broke and wasn't fixed until January. I doubt they will want to reopen it in the winter anytime soon again. Apollo won't be open, IMO, mostly because the area's theme has shifted from festive Italy to Retro Christmas and having that coaster open wouldn't match the theme. I am almost positive LNM can't operate in such cold weather. Alpengeist and Verbolten are the only two I can see open.

Also, I think Retro LAne is referring to the whole area of Festa, as the theme is no longer festive Italy, so a rename of the area would be appropriate in this situation.

DarKastle should obviously be closed. It is one of the most complex rides they have to work on. I don't think they would have time to do proper maintenance if it were opened.

RE: Christmas Town 2012 Rumors

Here is how I look at the roller coaster CT question:

Griffon was opened with CT when it all began because it was the newest roller coaster in the park and also the one the park felt best about running in cold temps. AC was in Festa which was closed that year so that was out. LNM can't run in the cold for multiple reasons. Alpie was probably also a maintenance concern. So a few years go by and Griffon is in dire need of a rehab but with it running during CT that window for it was very small and the winter conditions were very harsh. So Alpie opens after BGW decides they can open it for a year without any major problems. Lucky for them the winter was warm and it wasn't a problem. Now we are in 2012, we have the whole park now open for CT, but rides need down time, and also to keep prices around the CT level, you can't have all the roller coasters open, nor can you deal with the constant up and down of temps and opening and closing of coasters because of that. So if they are thinking about keeping with the open one coaster why not open your newest one that also is half indoors safe from the weather and nowhere near has to deal with the wear and tear that the B&M's create when running in cold weather.

I could be wrong on some of this but it's my theory.
