So why was the current bridge so horribly narrowed in the first place?
I wonder if they will move the remote controlled boats back to the bottom of the bridge when the new one is complete?
The reason I heard was because people kept on getting fater throughout the years, they had to reduce the capacity since the bridge can handle so much weight.
Pretzel Kaiser is pretty much correct. From what I have been told, the general weight of guests has increased dramatically over the years and the bridge could not support the weight. The park installed the extra rails to reduce the bridges capacity so that it would continue to float. It appears the time has come to just replace the bridge all together.
Well, I do spend a lot of time down there, and regardless of any weight issues the bridge may have, I truly am looking forward to the extra observational space to the sides (like the San Marco Bridge). I am always taking pictures at night, and with more room and less shakiness (being elevated), my pics should come out even more amazing next season!!
I'm very excited about it as well. Its a good looking bridge. I am curious if this will be a trend. The park replaced the England Parking Lot bridge a couple of seasons ago, and then the Pompeii-San Marco Bridge last year....
Hmm, I thought I'd heard that they narrowed the bridge to keep kids from climbing over the rails and getting in the water? (Although the other reason makes some sense...)
Do we know if this is this gonna require drainage, or a good pile driver like when they build docks?
EDIT:
I read the page and it does have a whole section on PILE DRIVING; though I don't know if any drainage is required for it. Wonder how deep the Rhine is. Must be pretty deep to hide ole' Nessie.
Hmm, the Rhine River doesn't seem too deep, at least on that end; however, I do remember someone saying it isn't that deep to begin with in general.
EDIT:
The plans look nice. Very interesting to see the bridge will still mostly be timber I think it looks great, and it doesn't look like it will be too terribly higher off the surface of the water than the current bridge. Maybe a few feet higher if that? Thanks for sharing Zach!
