An ironical thing is the Back Lot theme actually fits in well from the water park side with the surf shop and restaurant. Unfortunately there's no way to shift the entrance to that part of the park away from Jungle X.

Kings Island’s BLSC was just rethemed to Queen City Stunt Coaster, for what it’s worth. It’s some kind of Cincinnati theme. I don’t expect that to come to Kings Dominion, but I thought it was interesting.

I think this is a good indication that KD's Backlot will be getting the treatment we want for it next year, as it shows that Six Flags is not looking to remove these coasters. They acknowledged the 20th anniversary of the ride, which for KD's Backlot is next year since it opened a year after KI's one. Pair that with a willingness to revamp already existing rides in the Jungle X area (Reptillian, Arachnidia) and we should be seeing Backlot getting its retheme for 2026, probably as the main park improvement for the year since I doubt they're gonna be looking to spend a whole lot of money after how much they've done this year.

That’s easy, just make the train sit on the MCBR for an hour and put up a sign that says “Fredericksburg.”
That’s why it’s “Escape from I95”. The coaster goes through the nonsensical Virginia backroads and you avoid weirdo preppers with their 2nd amendment attack helicopters.

This re-theme is definitely a choice… I get the whole civic pride thing, but this is just weird. When I think of Cincinnati, my first thought is definitely not an action movie. I think a better option would have been to rip out the movie set theme and do literally anything else. This stinks of cheaping out which is very unfortunate because that chain has been doing so much better with theming over the last few years. Cheaper to just change some signs and do it half assed than actually come up with a theme that makes sense. They didn’t even change the license plate on the cop car to an Ohio plate, it still has California plates lol. Hopefully if they do this at KD, it actually gets some real theming. Make it jungle themed or something, I don’t care. Just not this.

This gives me hope for a possible KD retheme in the future!

True, but any action car chase scene could happen in any good city, if the story dictates.

I agree. Despite hoping for a retheme, I've been of the camp that it's too big of an investment, with little return on investment for KD, especially given the current company and economic climate. I was especially thinking that the ride just continuing to EXIST at KD without getting torn out soon would be a positive hope at this point. This definitely is the biggest development that would give credence to a future retheme possibility. Is KI's investment large? No, with minimal billboard and sign upgrades. Hopefully the effects are fixed though. KD's retheme would require a much greater investment, but it at least shows the company sees KI's version as favorably contributing to the lineup, AND wants to keep it in the lineup longer.

I actually love the name, and theming to Cincinnati gives it local character, and at least makes A LITTLE sense being between Coney Island and Rivertown. Perhaps the future of Vortex's plot of land across the path will tie in the ride even further. Recent rides like Iron Menace did a great job of tying the park into local history, and while this is nowhere near that scale, it is at least a similar approach (albeit small).

Possibilities of KD's Backlot, and maybe even Flight of Fear shifting towards their own themes and away from its clones are now more likely.

River City Stunt Coaster? RVA Stunt Coaster??? KI is almost exactly the same distance from downtown Cincy as KD is from Richmond.

While the jungle jeeps/safari idea is a slam dunk, they could disconnect the attraction from Jungle X (not saying they should). A new pathway from CAG between the bumper cars/Auntie Anne's and the games could connect it to CAG instead of Jungle X.

Not saying I'm a fan of this idea, but a city theme would require way fewer resources than changing it to a jungle theme (but I do love RVA). Regardless, something has to be done with this ride!

At least according to this POV uploaded to YouTube yesterday, KI's backlot retheme literally has 0 effects now. Hoping it's maybe just because the park wasn't open yesterday, but the new soundtrack doesn't have helicopter shooting sounds in it so I'm thinking they're actually gone. Very unfortunate since it was the only Backlot with those effects still working.

Something I noticed today was the billboards weren’t actually pasted on like the original ones were but they are just printed on tarps held on the billboard structure, which makes me think this is simply a temporary fix for the 50th.

Honestly I think the easiest way to retheme it would be to make a rocky facade over the metal buildings, like the same way the mountain used, and make it a cave system, maybe a kind of a haunted river/dooz sequel, or maybe as the snake temple. I agree with Zachary that the parking deck structure could be easily reutilized as a temple structure but I feel like most of the other things like the billboards should be removed, maybe the footers could be reused. I highly doubt it will stay the movie set theme for much longer

That's the way most "real" billboards are made now as well. I wouldn't read into it.
I got to witness this new billboard process a few weeks ago and it’s pretty smart if you ask me. The one I saw was able to get 2 billboards made, and they contracted for 4 months (summer) with it getting flipped every 2 weeks. I believe digital billboards are still the best option but reversible panel is really a smart cost efficient way to get more out of your ad placement.

While I like the idea of a combined coaster universe, I'd rather see that theme for the Dinosaurs Alive replacement.
Backlot is really close to Candy Apple Grove, correct? I was considering that when I was talking about the that sort of theming. A tweak over to hard cider from moonshine would do this trick. Cider was tied up in prohibition, so apples plus "Granny" making her own hooch. That might be a better fit for this coaster if it's going to be rethemed, than extending Jungle X-Pedition over to it.
