Apollo's Chariot has pnuematic friction brakes. B&M mag brakes were developed shortly after in the early-mid 2000s. Griffon uses them as trims to slow the train down to a more manageable speed just before the main run of friction brakes on the MCBR and final brake blocks. B&M uses magnetic brakes much more on their installations nowadays but still only as trims, never by itself in a block.

I wonder why that is. Magnetic breaks have a great built in failsafe and would seem to help with the slamming because Apollo isn’t the only one suffering from this as a couple of others I’ve been on have too.

I definitely agree. The "slamming" is coming from a program change. It can be changed back to a much smoother brake by tweaking the program (Back to the way it was).

I don't recall Apollo ever overshooting the safety/service block. It is a very long stretch of brakes and the train doesn't enter at a very high speed. I'm not sure why they felt the need to decelerate so abruptly at the end of that just to keep on rolling. The MCBR was very jolty too.

So this may be a dumb question, but who writes the program for the coaster? Is it B&M? And if there is a change do they have to report it to B&M and have them come and update it?

I’m not an expert on this so take this with a grain of salt. I believe B&M does the programming and I think the part can tweak it without having to tell B&M

A bit of a delayed reply but Nitro was the first B&M to use magnetic brakes

Trim breaks are definitely on tonight. The train probably the slowest i have ever rode it at after the trim. On the Brite side it doesn't feel like a car crash when you hit the break run. Also they really need to figure out how to get ride ops with common sense. I entered the station as the train was loading small crown only the first three rows were filled and tried to head towards the back. No one behind me in line so where I went shouldn’t have mattered as to loading but the team member at the gate stepped in front of me and insisted that I go to row 4 as that was the next open.

I love bgw but i just had quite the unplesant experience at apollo, i re adjusted my mask 1 or 2 times within the span of waiting 30 minutes for front row, and then i boarded and there was a supervisor at controls and he told me to get off upon boarding and you may not ride the rest of the night because “you had your mask off the whole time waiting” i maybe had my mask off a total of 15 seconds for re adjusting out of 30 minutes. there were people in that line that had there masks down for minutes at a time and i was hand picked because i had mine down 15 seconds if that out of 30 minutes for re adjusting while there are people currently waiting in the station with theirs off period, that disappoints me that the discression of that employee was so poor.

I was there with him and I can confirm that the employees working there tonight were bad.

Please call guest relations ! They don’t know the problem until you report it ! And hopefully something will be done ! Sorry about this. I think during covid people forget we are all human !

I’ll be back at bgw sometime sooner than later so i’ll talk to guest services when i go

Don't wait. I would email or send the a message on Facebook today. It will get resolved quicker. Otherwise this TM might continue to do it to others moving forward.

When I went the other week there was no one at the guest services place in Germany, are they someone else during covid time?
That place is not open right now. The only open location is at normal guest services at the entrance
