RE: 2012 Coaster

As far as I know Intamin holds no patents that prevent others from building magnetically launched rides. So If it makes sense over a hydraulic system, I'm sure they will use one. And from what I've seen in the leaked plans and stuff, that seems to make the most sense.

RE: 2012 Coaster

Hydraulic and air-powered launches can pull a train which is moving. The train has to stop to allow the catch car to attact itself to the train to pull it. technically, the LIMs/LSMs never touch the train.

RE: 2012 Coaster

I don't think you're off-topic at all; I'm also seeing a LOT of this as conflicting info...

I'm hoping that once Mach Tower is up, running and celebrated, Busch management can focus on getting this announced without fear of people saying "You can't even get THAT to work," so we can see exactly what it is we're getting. At this rate, unfortunately, we'll see the actual coaster before renderings and statistics in announcement form...

RE: 2012 Coaster

Family coaster is a pretty broad category. It basically means that there aren't many if any inversions, falls under medium intensity, and probably won't exceed 60 mph.

RE: 2012 Coaster

Big Bad Wolf was lumped into a family coaster because of the low ride height requirement and the relatively low intensity of the ride. They need something to replace the niche that coaster filled. There's no wild mouse coaster or any coaster at the park for the kids that are too short for the big coasters but bored with grover's coaster.

If they can get this ride height down to 42 inches, it would be perfect.

RE: 2012 Coaster

I could see that happening, seeing as Zierer makes coaster seats and restraints for kids and adults, but then again the requirements for Wicked @ Lagoon is 50". Who knows though.

RE: 2012 Coaster

^Wicked is an extreme thrill ride with inversions. BGW's 2012 coaster will not have any.

RE: 2012 Coaster

Even though they might need a "family ride" keep in mind that the 2012 coaster is supposed to be the sister coaster to Cheetah Hunt and that one isn't really a "family ride". Obviously with the layout we have seen, especially with the even building, there isn't going to be as much similarity as there is with Griffon and Sheikra, but the 2012 coaster is supposed to be slightly similar to Cheetah Hunt.

According to whom? They aren't on the same type of terrain, and not even the same manufacturer...

RE: 2012 Coaster

I just remember someone saying at one point that they are supposed to be sister coasters. They usually put similar things in their parks. I mean the general concept of the rides are similar: multiple launch coaster.

Because a couple B&M's similar to each other popped up a few times in both parks it is apparently a "trend."

RE: 2012 Coaster

well, I think based on the manufacturer being different, no accompanying animal exhibit and completely different terrain, I would say they're not really sister coasters. I think the multiple launches is the only thing they would have in common.

You mean hearsay from a year ago is wrong! The deception!

RE: 2012 Coaster

I'd say that they tend to add similar rides as long as it fits their needs. The removal of the Big Bad Wolf left a gaping hole in our collection that needed to be filled immediately. Busch Gardens Tampa didn't have that problem.

RE: 2012 Coaster

@MMMU: Apollo's Chariot also has a 210 foot drop and a high hight requirement. Really, more often than not, it's more about the hight requirement- not the ride itself.

EDIT: ArrowWolf beat me too it.
