RE: 2012 Coaster (Name To Be Discovered)

That 'crater' that they've dug is very deep, but it seems to be very narrow as well. They must be grading that ground in sections: first the right half, then the left half, or something like that. Thoughts?

RE: 2012 Coaster (Name To Be Discovered)

The crater is to say the least.... MASSIVE! Those pictures cannot capture how large the hole is.

RE: 2012 Coaster (Name To Be Discovered)

So first. I know that the height waiver said "above existing grade" but if so that means this building will be well over 100ft tall. Which would be awesome if that didn't mean that this event building would be a TOTAL eyesore for FH Park and Octoberfest. I'm thinking that they're going to try and hide this building as far in a ravine as they can to cut down on the potential for how ugly this building can be (think DarKastle but taller).

Okay DFFan. Here's why you should be excited:
To get one thing straight right off the bat, you shouldn't be excited about this ride for breaking any records. This isn't a "hardcore" coaster, but that doesn't mean it can't be incredible. This is truly a one of a kind kind. Yes yes, 13 has a drop section too, but the rest of the ride is like a mine coaster and the trop might as well be in a shack. We can expect some high level theming in our event building (at least for the first year...*coughdarkastlecough*) especially with that light box and the leaf pit. This will be the definitive experience for doing a drop section right.

The homage this ride pays to the BBW is also truly unique. I can't think of another coaster that has made such an effort as to keep so much of the coaster as a thank-you note to its years of service (perhaps most similar would be Phantom's Revenge though not nearly as iconic). The drop itself should be incredible and most importantly smooth from what I can tell by looking at Zierer.

The theming in the station should provide an experience you can't forget as well as the theming in the event building. Additionally if that rumor of the track actually tilting out during that helix is true (the concept art certainly makes it look true) then we'll be seeing an effect that NO other coaster can duplicate.

Essentially you need to think of this ride as an experience, not a record breaker. If you think of it that way then you certainly have a lot to look forward to experiencing.

RE: 2012 Coaster (Name To Be Discovered)

It would mean an atrocious eyesore like the Dark Knight at SFGAdventure and all but completely isolate FH Park. Thought it was hard to reach before?! Ha HA!

RE: 2012 Coaster (Name To Be Discovered)

I think a good comparison for this ride would be Maverick. It's not a record breaker, but it's my favorite coaster at Cedar Point.

RE: 2012 Coaster (Name To Be Discovered)

Ehhhhhhhhh. I wouldn't liken it Maverick. Maverick is definitely a hardcore coaster.

Actually....I have no idea what I would liken it most to....

RE: 2012 Coaster (Name To Be Discovered)

im hoping that they grade out flat down low a little wider and consider that grade....so the building can still be somewhat lower and hidden...i dont want to see another backside of darkastle ...yuck...

RE: 2012 Coaster (Name To Be Discovered)

It would make sense to make the entire thing pretty since they're going to be using the Drachen Fire area for concerts.

RE: 2012 Coaster (Name To Be Discovered)

To me, it looks like it will be alot like Revenge of the Mummy at Universal, obviously with a different theme and more elements to it. I am really starting to get alot more excited about this coaster than I was before, the only thing that scares me is the building. If they do it like Darkastle and decorate half and have the rest of the ugly building out in the open, that would suck. Also if they decorate it, I hope its not poppy and bright colors. I think the best thing for them to do, depending how far it is from where people can see it, is blend it with the trees.

RE: 2012 Coaster (Name To Be Discovered)

The building is 67' from the grade (56') to the peak of the roof and add another 16' for the lightning arrestor. I've tried to look into the themeing for the exterior of the building but there isn't a lot of detail about it. The concrete slab at the drop area in the building is to be 21" thick, the remainder of the building is 6" thick. I haven't been to the park in about 2 weeks, have they started with the footers in the building yet? I count about 70ish inside the building, those have to be completed prior to the rest of the foundation.

Posts like this make me glad you're part of the forums. No. They have not. They are still digging.

So the grade is 56' deep? Knew they wouldn't have an ugly towering building. I am such a genius.

RE: 2012 Coaster (Name To Be Discovered)

So for us dummies who don't understand all those numbers and terms, explain what the 67 feet and 56 feet and 16 feet represents please, cause I'm not gonna even pretend that I know what all that means (see signature below, lol)

RE: 2012 Coaster (Name To Be Discovered)

The "grade" is 56', this is 56' above sea level. It's the reference point for the building, everything is measured from this point. The peak of the building is shown at 123', this is where I get 67' for the height of the building. The 16' is the lightning rod, it will be 16' above the peak of the building.

When I was at the park on Friday, all that had been done was dirt removal and tree removal. It seems to me that they have leveled out where the foundation of the event building will be. I don't think the roof of the event build will be any higher than the bumper cars.

Carry the 1, add 3, minus the square root, pi equals.....
ok got it.

So the real question is, how much higher is the ground level of the bumper cars area over the grade of the event building? If we knew this, we'd be able to tell just how high above, more or less, the surrounding buildings (bumper cars, Festhaus, etc) the top of the event building will rise...

Anyone know exactly how high above sea level the bumper cars is?

RE: 2012 Coaster (Name To Be Discovered)

That building will be taller then the bumper cars. If the building is 67ft. that means if you took the picture of the man in the bottom of the ravine he would have to be stacked 11 times to reach the top and from that picture he would be taller than the bumper cars.

Probably the backlot stunt coasters at KD and KI (little zippy 40mph launch coasters)
