Like IndyNut, I have wondered about Windseeker's safety in re: to deliberate attempts to defeat the restraints. It seems like very minimal restraint for such extreme height. I haven't ridden one so you guys who have can clue me in, but based on on-ride vids, it looks like something someone could wiggle out of.

And that evacuation platform -- it looks like it would be easy to fall when trying to get from your seat on the ride onto/into the platform. (Though maybe not, maybe the platform is bigger than it looks.)

Still, I really hope they get the Windseeker issues worked out, because I really want to ride one!

Sure, but how do you go from your seat to the platform? The one vid I saw of a platform being worked on, the platform size didn't look right to go extend up under the seats, but maybe it did and the angle was too close to tell. Or more likely, I'm just visualizing completely wrong how the evacuation is supposed to work. No biggie. Just would like to ride.

PS Ok, I looked again at that vid under the Knott's Windseeker thread. So does the platform extend out on an arm to the seats? I guess? And then the cage completely surrounds you as you are unbuckled from your seat?

The evacuation platforms raise upwards and they will stop it when your are surrounded by the cage. They will open your restraint, you stand up, and then when both sides are evacuated it will lower. Then it repeats until everyone is off of the ride.

Also, if you have not seen the latest KDFans Update, there are many pictures of the evacuation platform in place at Kings Dominion.

Ignoring the fact that @KDFans is actually some offshoot Kevin Durant fanpage, here's a lovely picture taken from a brick by me yesterday.

If I remember correctly, then the tower is 336' and your body sits at 301'. I could be thinking of something else though. Looking at Mondials site, they updated it and it looks like they didn't re-add the tower statistics. I will look more though.

Hey! It's Cedar Fair's version of Mach Tower

WindSeeker doesn't break down a lot, but when it does, the news is notified pretty much. I personally have never gone and seen a ride break down... then again i've never seen a ride break down ever. I'm never in the right place at the right time. Except for Christmas Town last year with Verbolten -_-.

I've been on roller coasters as they have broken down before. I haven't had to do the lift hill walk or anything, but I could not imagine sitting 301 feet up on that thing as it shuts down.

Good reporting local media and CoasterBuzz, Carowind's and Cedar Point's Windseekers are still operating.

The basis for this story is that WOF is getting Knott's Windseeker ride for 2014; and, the local/regional news station was reporting LAST YEARS incidents with the versions of this ride around the Cedar Fair chain. This included the shutting down of all of them in late 2012 and the re-opening of all of them, except Knott's, in the late spring of 2013. Just the normal digging up of dirt to make it news-worthy.

Mach Tower's evacuation plan in case the ride does get stuck at the top is to call the fire department, whereas all other coasters you can just walk down.
