Quote from reddit:

"Volcano- No, I didn't get to ride it, but I did see it, and it isn't looking good. From the lift hill on Avalanche, I could see that the mountain is falling apart. There are huge sections where the outer layer is just gone, and there were a lot of patch marks. One of the trains was sitting on what I think is the brake run, you can see it from the entrance, and it was uncovered and super dirty. The way I see it, KD is going to spend a ton of money to get Volcano running next year, and then they'll realize it's too difficult to maintain, and they'll put it into a long-term SBNO."

It seems that there is no visible work done right now, does anyone have any updates on what's going on or how far along they are with their repairs?

In Volcano’s defense, it looks like many of the holes in the mountain were intentionally made by the park. I assume the holes will allow some sort of access to the ride during its refurbishment.

With how awful and expensive the ride has been the last couple of years, any percentage of a chance they could just remove it entirely? I know it's popular with the public, but there has to be a point where a ride that's 20 years old isn't worth the hassle or money anymore... Look at BBW at BGW, it was a fan favorite but they realized that long-term, the ride's benefits were less than the cons of keeping it running.

Corporate initiative after their horrid Q1 and Q2 and par Q3 is to remove the less reliable rides in the parks.

Unfortunately I think Volcano's popularity with guests and it's brilliant way of selling Fast Lane Pluses is enough to try and get it running again.

This is really disappointing because Volcano is a fun coaster (albeit a little short for my liking); but if basically missing a year for a whole new system that makes it like a new ride from the electronics side...I'd take it.

This ride was such a waste of the mountain structure. Plus other than the launch, the ride itself is anti-climactic. Just doing a bunch of barrel rolls and quickly stopping into the brakes. They could have built a true inverted somewhere else and preserved the mountain for what it was intended for....dark rides.

If they are truly remodeling it what are the chances we might see seats designed to fit larger riders? Volcano has some of the tightest seats out there.

It is suppose to get a whole new drive system over the off season, but that’s not the reason it was closed in May. Whether or not they fix what’s wrong with it by the 2019 season is between the park and Intamin.
What do you mean by a new drive system?

I was wondering if they would consider replacing the LIMs with LSMs but I know nothing about engineering or if that would be particularly beneficial.

From what I understood about it converting to LSMs would involve changing the trains and the final brakes as well. LSMs have two metallic fins on the train and 1 set of launch magnets while LSMs are the opposite.

Considering Volcano's entire drive system is LIM, I don't believe they'll be changing over to LSM.

I have a picture of volcano’s train in the station.

So does anyone have any idea what’s going on with Volcano? The GP in KDs Facebook comments seem worried that it’s getting the axe potentially. I highly doubt that’s true but I have zero sources other than KD itself.
