I doubt they would put so much effort into fixing it if it is just gonna get removed

I really hope it dosent only because I can see them just dozing the mountain. That mountain has so many memories, The Land of the Dunes, Smurf Mountain, Time Machine, the lost river......

While I don't get the hate for this ride, it's probably nearing the end of it's lifecycle.

Its always the longest line in the park, its boring after the launch, its incredibly short, it has terrible inversions, and in a totally unrelated side note that totally doesn't effect my opinion of the ride, it ate my phone.

Sorry but I am confused now:
So Volcano might receive additional maintenance from Intamin but may not open this coming season?

I'm leaning more towards a rework than maintenance at this point. Maybe KD realized that it's kinda futile to get this working when it'll just have problems again down the road.

I personally don't think KD should be putting so much money into this ride. It's at the end of its service life imo. If it takes literally replacing track and/or launch mechanisms to get it running, it's not worth it.

On the contrary, I would argue this is one of Cedar Fair's few coasters that the company would be willing to pour money into to keep running.

Edit: RIP

True, but it confuses me why. Most people agree it is way too short. I can understand KD having this early 2000's, but come on. They got Intimidator and Twisted Timbers now. dArE i SaY iT Personally, Flight of Fear is a better launch coaster than Volcano.

Is it really fair to claim "most people agree it is way too short?" Sure, a vocal group within the enthusiast community makes that complaint, but what percent of park guests does that little group make up? Volcano consistently ranks up with the park's other attractions for yearly ridership, despite its limited capacity, and I would bet it's a bigger driving factor for Fast Lane sales than any other ride in the park.

Personally, even though I think Volcano is mediocre by coaster standards, it's still a purely fun ride and I wouldn't be surprised if the general public tends to agree.

slightly off topic...but I liked how the second acceleration run actually shot you up and out the top of the mountain. Always wanted to see a normal coaster like Apollo's Chariot fling you up the lift hill instead of just a chain lift. Would certainly start the ride with a rush! Yes yes cost and variable train loads / complex....but yeah...would still be cool.

You're thinking of lightning rod.
