Timbers will make up for it a bit but knowing that Volcano is indefinitely closed devalues the season long Fast Lane a lot since that is one coaster in the park that is always guaranteed to get a pretty big line on a busy day.

Also their biggest gun in Fast Lane Plus sales. The park is eating it right now by not having Volcano open, not like they can do anything about it though.

Exactly! On two of my visits last year, I used the Fast Lane Plus on Volcano for most of the day and then again in the evening on Dominator on my way out as I was leaving the park. Everything else those days were either walk-ons or a maximum two train wait.

I'm not strong on my KD knowledge, but I'm quite sure that my uncle said the volcano had had other rides in it before "volcano; the blast coaster". Maybe they are changing it again?

If you look in the Defunct Attractions section of our KD board, you will find threads for Haunted River, Time Shaft, and Land of the Dooz / Smurf Mountain. Those rides we're in the mountain, before Volcano was built.

I'd add that I doubt KD is shutting down -- for an extended period of time -- one of their most famous and popular attractions for any reason other than a serious maintenance issue.

Are there any news/updates on the coaster? Would like to know what the problem is and if it might reopen during this season. I hope the closure does not take as long as Xcelerator (Intamin) at Knotts, which was down from last July until February 2018.....

Not sure how true this rumor is, but I’m seeing reports from various guests that Volcano is down for the season. Guest Services is reportedly telling guests that the ride is down for the season. Some are speculating that structural issues with the supports and/or the actual volcano is the main reason for the prolonged downtime, which makes sense because of the holes seen in parts of it.

Someone trusted on the inside.

Presumably they are taking a conservative stance while speaking to customers. We provided the park's internal, optimistic, best case scenario, estimate.
Okay, so there might be a slight chance that it reopens next month?

Correct. By no means should you count on it, but if everything goes perfectly, yes, it could be open by the end of August.

Okay, we will be there between 17th and 19th, so it's in the middle of August, I guess that rules out any reopening as you said end of the month?

It doesn't rule it out completely, but certainly don't get your hopes up.

The actual best case scenario goal they're probably pushing hard for is to have it ready for labor day weekend. That said, even the smallest hiccup could prevent that with how tight their schedule currently is.

Also, keep this in mind: Even though we are reporting that the park is still pushing for a 2018 reopening, there is still a very real possibility that Volcano will be closed till Spring of 2019. It just all depends on how quickly parts make it to KD, how quickly the installation moves, whether any other issues are found in that process, and then the time required for inspections and testing.

Feel free to file this as a hot take:

If this is the beginning of the end of Volcano, I wouldn’t be happy to see it go but I wouldn’t be sad. I would fee the same way she Phantom became Phantoms Revenge. A chance to improve.
