Which will then be merged with the Defunct Ride thread.

Those are already one in the same. ?

Anyway, yeah, our policies with threads like this has been sorta inconsistent over the years. It's something @Nicole and I have been looking to formalize lately. That might be a topic for the new Advisory Panel...

Anyway, Volcano!

Was anyone at the park yesterday/is anyone there today? I'm curious to know if progress is continuing with the park currently open...

Im no expert on concrete....but repairs shouldnt be hard. They just need to form some rebar in the basic shape they want, cover it with wire mesh then spray it with shotcrete. Its not like the mountain was carved or detailed like Expedition Everest, its just rough sprayed.

With all this to-do about Volcano...I couldn't imagine what the response would be if BGW tore down LNM....

That's not funny.

@madmax
Why all the hate against the mountain? What did it ever do to you?

@WDWRLD
Provided none of the primary infrastructure is damaged from stress fatigue, rust, or general misadventure, that is precisely what would happen. Hell that is more or less how they built the damn thing.

Now if the OG concrete has asbestos fibers in it, not unheard of in the mid 70s, we are looking at a whole different kettle of fish. However given the work that has been done to it over the years, i think we would know that now.

@Zimmy My condolences to your Volcano.

I do believe it has something to do with the structure. As someone pointed out, the ride was featured on this years season passes. Obviously a rather quick decision and subsequent start of demolition. This leads me to believe something was serious enough they had to take it down. Did anyone look in public records to see if any condemnation was filed?

Oh, no I could really care less what happens to Volcano. I thought the ride was lack luster and the mountain did not scale properly. I always thought it looked like what it was, someone shoved a small invert into an existing structure, poorly.

My reaction was directed to my precious, Nessie.

As far as I know, the park could remove the whole back half of the mountain (concrete skin, mesh, and rebar) to get at the coaster for demo. As long as the main I-beam structural supports stay in place, it would probably take 3-4 months to replace the rebar, mesh, and spray the concrete back.

Course, IF the mountain is kept for the next attraction(s), KD just might leave it open in back until the future plans are in focus. The park might have to expand the structure or at least leave enough access for ease of contruction.

Or...they could chop off everything just above the mountain and lift piece by piece carefully away from the mountain. Then go inside and cut out the inside portion piece by piece removing it through a fairly small opening that is already there for the track to enter/exit. They just patch the small holes. Honestly the most work will be replaceing the top of the mountain.

Doesn’t bode well for those wanting to keep it

A group of workmen carefully removing a bridge from something you believe is about to be flattened to the ground doesn't bode well for those who think the mountain could be staying...?

I'd love to know the rationale behind that idea...

Until I see a wrecking ball come in and start destroying everything, I feel that insisting that the mountain is going down despite all the physical evidence pointing otherwise just because one fan site said so is ignorant at best and downright rude at worst.

They're being careful with everything they're doing,

The only holes they've cut into the structure are at the bottom, and even then, thus far we've only seen a single hole.

The only report confirming the mountain leaving is from a fan site, which even on the best of days, can still get things wrong.

There's more evidence suggesting the mountain is sticking around rather than being destroyed; this isn't to say that the mountain might not come down, but constantly asserting an unfounded opinion is doing nothing but causing eye rolls and derailing the topic at hand.

Removing the queue is very sufficient evidence that it’s all going considering Volcano re-used the queue from the previous rides there.
Not really it just means that they are not planning on using the existing ride layout which was a given more or less.
