After watching the demo progress the last 2 weeks, I am not sure now if the mountain would have been salvagable. There are just way too many coaster supports crammed into that space. I sometimes wonder if Intamin over-engineered Volcano in the first place (given this was a prototype for them back then).

I never really given thought till now that the existing mountain footprint and supports might limit the park in having (a) new attraction(s) designed and built. Maybe starting from scratch would be better. Remember, the design of the Lost World Mountain was to house the original 3 attractions when they opened in 1979.

If CF/KD goes the route of re-building the mountain from scratch, that would give them much more flexibility in working with designers/manufacturers to come up with new attractions to put within it. The version 2 mountain would be designed specifically for the next generation attraction(s).

If the park decides to do that, I don't see anything opening until 2021 or 2022.

Or they could just drop a few flats in that space and call it a day.

That is one possibility. But, given the theming detail that CF has put into the new attractions in the park chain over the last couple of seasons, I think they will make more effort to theme that area (with or without a new mountain).

SallyCorp Volcanikus Dark Ride

Not much of a possibility but its a fun idea! ?

The great god of fire, Volcanikus, has awakened. Its wrath may only be calmed by returning the jewel -- plus other lost jewels hidden all over the island --- to the sacred altar far beneath the volcano. So now your quest is to locate the other jewels -- to find the sacred altar -- and to return them to the altar in order to quell the destruction of Volcanikus. But the journey is packed with monstrous danger as the molten minions of Volcanikus will threaten you at every turn. Fortunately you will be equipped with powerful laser blasters which will protect you and enable you to find the hidden jewels. Now it's time to roll! Enter the dark jungles of Inferno Island and experience the interactive 4-D dark ride adventure of a lifetime as you find the jewels, battle Volcanikus and save the island!
The ride includes : motion-based vehicles, immersive sets & scenery, lifelike animatronics, 3D interactive screens, real-time gaming, virtual and tangible targets, special FX: fire/wind/fog, and a compelling storyline.

I'm glad I put up the pictures from the front that looked almost normal, so much can happen in 4 days.

I think they knew exactly they're doing before they announced anything. I can also imagine a discussion, they can have the mountain and maybe a flat ride in it, or another coaster, but not both, too expensive.

I did think the way to reuse the mountain would have been to not put anything "inside" it. Around it, over it, a little through it, but mostly not. It would have been a compromise, but I think it would have been better to theme the mountain as solid not hollow for a coaster anyway. Nobody seemed to be able to grab the idea of thinking outside the mountain though.

They might still keep the queues, shop and lagoon, after all a queue can be used for any substantial ride and it's even the right height for most coaster load platforms though not the one it served. Thus the careful severing of the queues from the mountain. The waterfall piece behind Scrambler looks to have been seperate in John's latest shot.

As to something Dinosaur's Alive-ish in the spot and a coaster in DA's spot, the latter is fairly natural still while Volcano's is very much not, so I can't see that happening.

There is a picture floating around, e.g. https://themeparkreview.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1905216#p1905216

That pic is from the KD Season Pass Holder's page I'm pretty sure. Either way there doesn't appear to be much left to demo anymore.

I took these yesterday. That tiny piece of track in the picture above is now gone. This mountain doesn’t have much time left in this world :(
