RE: Verbolten

^Any new wheels that the park gets will always feel bumpy at first. I'm pretty sure that AC is getting new wheels (as noted in the picture - taken Friday). With this being said, AC, one of the smoothest coasters in the park, will be a little "bumpy" for a little while too. I really agree that Verbolten is bumpy in the beginning, but once you get to all of the turns and everything you really don't notice it.

RE: Verbolten

going to take a wild guess but when the train goes on the drop track and such it goes it lands on the the wheel while stopped all that wait is forced onto the wheels and such. And wheels can't reinflate themselves either and they cost a butt load to replace. Remember a roller coaster is used to being able to move the forces around the wheel but when the train is stopped all the force is put on that direct spot no where else. You may have to think about it couldn't think of any other way to word this.

In other words, the drop track may be flat spotting the wheels.

The bearings would take the brunt of the force before urethane. I would imagine a harder urethane mixture is used as well.

I have too agree with your point on the wheels.

Here's another point. The gap between drop track and the straight track shouldn't be that much ,like 1/4". This shouldn't cause a problem with flat spots on the wheels or even the bearings. I think the problem is they have a bearing that was installed from start at the factory.

BTW, what train is this happening on.

RE: Verbolten

It's more like the fact that the weeks on v are not curved, so we feel all the bumps... The reason griffon is so smooth is because the wheels are so curved

RE: Verbolten

I checked in on the thread last night but was on mobile and didn't try to post, but my thoughts were like Zoomy's -- to me it is rough as in bumpy, not rough as in quick/whipping transitions. It is immediately apparent when the train starts to move out of the station. Rough like driving a car over bad road type of rough -- like bumpy track in other words, not just from directional or speed changes. Surprisingly bumpy for steel for certain IMO. For comparison, I would say the Wolf was rough on the dips combined with turns from the forces, and you could brace against the OTSR, but this one is rough throughout.

I still think it's a great ride and I wouldn't call it rough enough to stop you from riding, it just stands out a bit for a steel coaster to be so bumpy. ETA: Again I don't want to sound like it's bumpy enough to stop you from wanting to ride -- not that, just bumpier than you expect from a steel coaster. Incredible ride overall for sure.

RE: Verbolten

Guys, I'm pretty sure the park is just going for accuracy here, I'm sure there are many stray nails throughout the Black Forest. :p

But in all seriousness, doesn't the roughness add a bit? I'm sure if the Black Forest were actually haunted, it wouldn't be that pleasant of a ride.

RE: Verbolten

If this problem is really noticeable during Media Day when park management and the Zierer's team take their rides they may come up with a way to take care is this problem. But if they think there is no problem than we will have to live with it. We also have to remember that the maintenance mechanics inspect the trains daily and if they see a problem that Zierer needs to address they will take care of it.

RE: Verbolten

When it comes to Verbolten's roughness, like it has been iterated before, its not rough like a wooden coaster but more like the infamous "B&M Rattle." Anyone who has ridden Dominator at KD or Vortex at Carowinds knows what I speak of.

The roughness within the show building is almost non-existant to me, the only rough spot of not for me is the climbing turn after the Rhine River drop and before the airtime hill.

RE: Verbolten

I honestly think you guys are all just spoiled on B&M's.

Go ride a Vekoma SLC with the old trains then talk to me about rough steel coasters... Any of the lesser maintained arrow loopers. Revolution at Six Flags. A little bump or two isn't going to hurt you and does not make a ride rough... It should be expected if you ask me.

RE: Verbolten

^I definitely agree I feel spoiled by all BGW's coasters! Seriously, Verbolten is awesome but any good review is gonna mention the not so great AWA the great. Ride Verbolten!

Some does, but usually the manufacturer makes the wheel curved on purpose

BUT, let's not forget that when the manufacturer does that the ride has already had to go through a few sets that were flat. They cannot pre-dent the wheels and have it off center as every ride will be different and some trains. It has to go through sets on its own so they can spec it properly.

First the footers and now being slightly bumpy? Man, this is the worst coaster in the world.

Even after ALL the rides we had on it, I never got a headache or felt beat up in the slightest. Griffon ended up doing the number on my head last night.
