I noticed this last night and thought it was very odd. I had fast lane but the regular line looked to be about 30 minutes or so. Yet when I got to the station there was literally only two people waiting for the front while the rest of the rows were empty. I know the past few visits they would allow quite a bit of guests in the station just enough so no one is lined up on the stairs, for safety reasons as attendant said. Last night however was just baffling.

according to a post on facebook, there was a rash of thefts yesterday, there's an outside chance it could be tied to that.

Here's the text of the post I saw on Facebook (group Kings Dominion Season Pass Holders)

Last night around 10pm my friend group and I got our stuff stolen from Twisted Timbers. They went through not just our bag but other people’s bags as well and ONLY stole maybe like two or three things from each. they stole 1/3 wallets in my bag as well as 2 vapes and just 2 cards out of another gentleman’s bag who talked to security with us. they didn’t take phones or keys, just one wallet thank god ( im not sure about the other people, i think they stole one older woman’s whole bag). they found the group of teens who were doing this from the cameras and they are on a search for them now after we filed for larceny. they’ve already tired to make purchases on our cards but luckily they were canceled before they tried.
why do people have to be so desperate to go through every single bag and only take a few items. i hate people sometimes. i guess what im trying to get at is make sure yall buy lockers. I know we should have done this instead of leaving our stuff on top of the lockers i get it and we know we’re dumb for that, but i’ve been going to Kings Dominion for years, i go pretty much every weekend and this has NEVER happened to me, but i know now to just pay the price to use a few lockers. we tried to see if we could get a refund for our friends tickets we got in with the bring a friend because we spent the ENTIRE night in the security’s office, but they couldn’t give us one because we were released 30 min before park close and they said “ we technically had time in the park” and we rode one ride therefore no refund…. i’m sorry but i don’t think that’s fair but i didn’t argue.
Honestly, this year has been a bad year for KD i feel like nothing has gone right. i have friends who are currently working there and they said this season has been off it’s horrible to be there. so much has happened with all the assaults, shooting threats, stealing, fighting. i think this will have to be the last year i come here for awhile. it’s just not the same.
i am fully aware we should not have done this and i am using my experience to warn people who may do what i did. i unfortunately just couldn’t get a locker we didn’t have any money so there wasn’t much we could do..
and yes they broke into someone else’s actual locker. just think about that. some of yall need to stop think and actually read before asking or saying dumb stuff it’s all in here. you don’t need to come at me for sharing my experience especially when i admitted to doing something wrong which half of you probably wouldn’t ever do.
Update: They have arrested the teenager for larceny and we got some of our stuff back.

So instead of posting security at the lockers, make sure no one is coming back into that area.....they only let one or two groups at a time through? Jesus.
I don't know if that is what caused the bottleneck, but it seems like a reasonable guess based on the available information.

The bottlenecking I experienced was well before 10. It was around 6 when I rode it and it was my only ride on TT last night and after reading that, I'm glad I didn't go back. People fucking suck! I am curious on how someone was able to steal from multiple people like that. Are those lockers that easy to get into or are people not paying attention and not closing them all the way?

Based on the below, it was the lockers across from TT where people throw their bags on top of the lockers. Not the best practice for riders, but I don't see why that would have affected operations of the ride.

Not blaming the people who got their stuff stolen but come on man. It's 5 lousy dollars to rent a locker for the entire day and move it around. Better safe than sorry

From what I understand, the park has had issues with the queue lockers. And though they took steps to rectify those issues earlier this summer, it's very well possible they're still having issues.

In the past, riders could successfully "rent" a locker and deposit their belongings without issue. But it was on the other side of the locker bay, when riders attempt to "reopen" the locker, that there have been issues.

Discussion of what those problems is a rather interesting topic (which actually prompted the park to go with a different software vendor for the locker UI system earlier this summer). But on some previous times I've seen the operations severely throttle traffic through the metal detectors (and thus into the station), is because there were locker issues.

And though I'm not in the knowledge of what happened this past weekend - if only a small subset of the lockers were "fully" working this weekend, in allowing the reopen, this would explain why they would have to limit riders.

(Note of course, rather than delay the entire line before the metal detector, they could simply allow riders from further back in line who "think" they have no items to trigger the detectors, come forward and skip the others waiting for lockers. But once those people are found to have "items", it causes all sorts of issues to the line order.)

The theft sounds like a completely separate incident. The Facebook poster seems to be referring to the paid Twisted Timbers lockers out by Twist & Shop (people tend to leave their bags on top of the lockers to avoid paying for them), not the free lockers inside the queue.

Were there 2 people at the metal detectors while this was going on? If the second person has to go to the other side to help empty a locker the line has to be stopped.
Could just be somebody forgot their pin/color and they had to go through lockers for a while

Chilly night rides on Twisted Timbers is my favorite whether it's Haunt or Winterfest. I went to the park a couple Sundays ago and while it was somewhat busy, it was a walk on the entire night along with Dominator. Guess that's one nice thing about Winterfest when it's main draw is for lights and shows for families, you can get quite a few rides on it during this time.
