That’s part of it for me. The other parts are it’s still a one trick pony ride to me and all they did was alter the trick to something, IMO, less unique.

Personally as I keep thinking about it, lessening the accelerations seem like a way to gain greater appeal, but is there anything wrong with a really high intensity coaster?

Like I said early, everything about this just kinda falls flat to me. Sounding like a less than impressive acceleration. A launch setup that’s becoming less unique. A ride name that’s a little laughable. And a one trick pony that’s still a one trick pony. Just. Meh. I’m not going out of my way to get to CP to ride this.
My hunch is this rebuild isn’t for the purpose of drawing new guests, but in order to stop any bleeding that would come from tearing Dragster down. It’s why you don’t see the extra money spent that would really make this interesting and maybe draw additional interest. CF likely concluded there’s little to no upside in this ride, but lots of downside, so they did the bare minimum to keep current guests satisfied enough to keep vacationing at CP.

I think this will be a nice improvement over the original - bottom line is the ride will be longer with a stall and spike. It's enough to get me to visit the park again.

Instead of Top Thrill 2 they can call it Pantheon 1/2 since it's half of Pantheons elements.

More like 1/8

The highlight will be going fast backward and then the huge spike and subsequent drop down it, and finally going 120 mph without a windshield is still going to feel impressive (unless you drive motorcycles ludicrously dangerously). But yes, the crazy rapid acceleration is lost.

That was 1/2 of the thrill of TTD. Now, this is a gradual speed machine that isn't an adrenaline rush, but more of a Crescendo. Not sure that's a "Top Thrill."

Yes, but I wonder if it will actually accelerate to the set speeds much faster than you are all thinking and then the rest of the launch is simply to maintain that speed. That would let it have the strong launch feel (if not TTD level).

I'm torn between expecting that experience (boost and maintain) vs. expecting a more gradual acceleration tailored to minimize the intensity of peak demand placed on their electrical infrastructure.

There can be a happy middle ground. Maybe this isn't Volcano launch intense, but still fairly intense and then with the sustained fairly low to the ground speed from the rest of the launch, especially once up to 120 mph, you have a nice effect there as well.

The dooming for this ride is almost as intense as r/orioles after a loss.

I sincerely hope that Top Thrill 2 is followed by a real, concerted coaster effort in 2025/6 complete with a concrete theme and some kind of astonishing statistics.

Disappointment can sometimes be followed by amazement. Let's hope that's the case here...just maybe...

I just thought of something.

The top hat is 420 feet right? But the train only has to go up 400 feet. And it's needed to get to 120 MPH and usually goes fairly slow up over that.

Superman: Escape from Krypton goes 100mph and hits a peak height on the car of 328 feet.

So the spike being 420 feet tall might be kind of......vanity? This is of course without knowing the weights of the cars. Superman holds 14 people in it's car and TT2 is going to be holding 20. So even if you conservatively estimate an average of 185 per person, TT2 will have 1,110 more pounds per train than Superman.

Man, I'm starting to wonder how high up on that spike you are actually going to get.

With the top of the spike being at 420ft, and with 1.2-1.5 train lengths above the highest point, I would guess that the back car reaches about 350-360ft. A tad more buffer room than I would have preferred, but it'll still be one hell of a spike.

Interesting that the animation shows the top section of the spike connected to supports, unlike Pantheon...

Obviously there’s some perspective stuff of the angle shown but Power Tower is 300’ tall

Helllo! I am planning to get student press credentials for opening day of TT2 (I'm covering it for a school newspaper). Does anyone here know how late I can submit my request and still have a chance to be allowed access?

Only Cedar Point marketing can probably answer this. Why put it off though? Do it ASAP.

Zach, that's the problem. My teacher doesn't want to do anything about this until second semester. That's why I asked. Trust me, if I had her OK, that email would be sent already.

You're probably technically safe to wait until January for media day, but it's definitely a situation where the sooner you can get noticed, the better.

I assume your school is local to Cedar Point, yes? Seems like you could be missing press releases and other potential events (construction tours) worth reporting in the meantime by waiting until next year too.

All my journalism training always emphasized building contacts and relationships early and often. You never know when you'll need someone to reach out to. No idea why someone teaching journalism would try to hold back a reporter from taking initiative and attempting to establish a contact.
