This right here. They could just be like it’s this new dragster vehicle that can go forwards and backwards.
I wasn’t saying that was a reason to call it a dragster. The old name didn’t quite fit the ride, but at least in one important aspect it did: strong forward only acceleration. The new ride doesn’t fit a dragster theme at all.

Intimidator 420 would have been better.

Can any of the math-brained folks 'round here check his work? Because if TT2's new launch is really, notably less forceful than the likes of Copperhead Strike, that seems like a big miss.

Not sure if this is already taken into consideration or if it’s relevant, but don’t coasters usually have an initial kick and then a gradual acceleration to their max speed? So even if it takes 550 feet to reach 74 mph, it might also reach 60 mph or even the full 74 mph in just a few feet then just hold you at that constant speed for the rest of the launch track, which would most likely pull more Gs than stated.

I am definitely not expecting it to be a constant 0.4g acceleration. I can't put a number on it, but I would expect closer to ^this post^ being correct; at least having a good kick off the starting line & gradually letting off by the end of it. Just cause it has stators all the way down the old launch track doesn't mean it'll need or use all of them on each pass.

Actually, I don’t think it’ll have a dragster theme anymore. I haven’t seen any mention of “dragster” in the promos and website and there’s also the “new formula for thrills.” So it might be just like a Formula 1 race car. Ride still has a racing theme and goes backwards, but there’s also a racing themed coaster going to Cotaland that doesn’t even have a launch and has a freakin’ tilt track.

So either this thing with have a forceless launch or the max speed is really underwhelming for the length of track.

To me the Red Force one is really damning to TT2, which I completely forgot about looking into. Red Force launches to 112 in 500 ft of track give or take. TT2 is going only to 79 in that same length. 33mph slower. Now yes it’s going to matter where on the track it hits it’s top speed but that’s making it look worse.

Edit: I stand corrected. Per @Zachary ’s posted tweet RF launch is 472 feet. TT2 is 550 feet.

I think each time someone looks into some of these stats for TT2 is going to be something that’s going to make it less impressive.

Double edit:
Knowing what RF can do in a shorter track length really damages Zamperla and CP IMO. There’s capability to do it as demonstrated from RF. So this ride is nerfed either intentionally (CP) or nerfed do to ability to make it (Zamperla).

Also to make note: I hate swing launches and I think Pantheon is the only one I’ve seen that does it well.

Each MPH of speed requires increasing input of energy. Your car accelerates faster at low speeds etc. (LSMs are somewhat more constant than that, it's complicated). The acceleration does sound unimpressive but should leave a nice margin of error, really shouldn't have any problems.

Red Force probably really pushed the limits of launch system cost, and doing it in one launch for Dragster would have been a substantial, possibly exponential increase since presumably this has to not wreck the electrical grid.

That's grand and all but it's turning out TT2 is having one of the worst returns of length of launch to speed outputs of all the LSM coasters out there.

How about we wait until we either A) see it test or B) ride it and decide if it's fun or not. I think the backward launch and 420' spike is what is really going to make the ride.

I'm not sure I understand the surprise-disappointment here.

You have a ride which previously accelerated to something like 120mph along a quite considerable horizontal distance of x.

Now the new version of that ride is going to accelerate to basically the same speed (+/-), but in three bursts along a huge total horizontal distance of approximately 3x (+/-).

Of course the average G forces during the launch will clearly be considerably lower than they used to be, and lower than a great number of other large launched rides.

To jump to numbers and context: TT2 will be launching to the speed of a floored mid-range Toyota Camry, over a total distance of nearly a third of a mile.

🤷‍♂️

Is the surprise-disappointment that the new ride doesn't achieve a higher initial speed via a more intense first launch? That would make the next two launches considerably softer than they are now from an acceleration POV (though the speed carried through them would be higher, which could be good fun).

That’s part of it for me. The other parts are it’s still a one trick pony ride to me and all they did was alter the trick to something, IMO, less unique.

Personally as I keep thinking about it, lessening the accelerations seem like a way to gain greater appeal, but is there anything wrong with a really high intensity coaster?

Like I said early, everything about this just kinda falls flat to me. Sounding like a less than impressive acceleration. A launch setup that’s becoming less unique. A ride name that’s a little laughable. And a one trick pony that’s still a one trick pony. Just. Meh. I’m not going out of my way to get to CP to ride this.

The amount of straight track after the swing launch into the spike before cresting the top-hat is seemingly extraordinarily long. This was fine during the TTD era with a single launch to 120MPH from the station, but without any kind of airtime hill, themed enclosure/sequenced LED lighting effects/sound effects, there is a lot of missed opportunities with this "iteration" of TTD. One of the best ways to create the impression of speed and thrilling movement is to enhance that with stationary visual aspects that escape the brain's ability to process it easily. That could include striped paint on the straight track sections or tunneling so it blurs and implies speed, like racing road lines.

Why I am not employed in the industry yet, I don't know. These are just things I think of when playing Planet Coaster at 3AM. Maybe CP needs to play too.

Imagination matters. 🥹
