I doubt that would happen prior to reclaiming the Power Tower and Corkscrew space.

Build the new TTD, then rip out Corkscrew and Power Tower to be able to build the next coaster. Only then do they add the drop to the top hat.

Maybe... But given that adding another ride to the TTD tower would take considerable downtime in itself, now is a great opportunity to go ahead with construction given the coaster isn't able to operate anytime soon.

Additionally, for all we know it's possible that they'd have this completed and ready for opening day 2024 in replacement of or addition to the coaster.

There's almost no question at this point - but I grabbed this picture yesterday to show how exactly the new footers line up with the track leading straight to the top hat. Or what's left of it.

There's also a wide angle view if anyone wants to try figuring out what the approx. dimensions of the triangle are in comparison to other spike footers

I’m curious as to how that will interact with Iron Dragon. Going under seems like there wouldn’t be a hole lot of space, but if there is that’s one scary head chopper element. If it goes over that’s not a super interesting element as neither coaster gets the benefit of that interaction.

I posted this on CoasterForce but I'll share here as well:

A friend of mine did some measurements of the footer locations using Blender, and calculated that the triangle footer arrangement is around 25.6m wide and 11m deep.

Using that info, I did a few mockups of potential spike heights of 300ft, 400ft, and 500ft

Based on the spacing of the footers & looking at these side by side, I personally feel that the 500ft spike structure seems to make the most sense with how wide the rearmost footers are spaced. (I also did the same double-angle rear column design that the tophat structure does, I personally think it looks the best haha.)

So yeah, spike is imminent and the track will go over Iron Dragon. The question is now "How big will it be?!"

That, and, well... "Is it actually Zamperla???" (My official guess is NO. There's been plenty of Z-coincidences, but this whole project just screams Intamin & until I see genuine proof otherwise, that's my working assumption)

100% the track will be above Iron Dragon

And here I was thinking I was the only one to truly dispute the Zamperla rumors. I've hated the speculation since it started. It never made any sense aside from one vague IAAPA statement about the new Zamperla trains (which are pretty sweet trains TBH).

Why would a company that has never built a coaster over 120ft tall or one with a magnetic launch (yet) take on one of the world's largest coaster engineering projects that's over 400ft tall with a massive magnetic launch expected? Even if the manufacturer would want to do it (which I'd say is plausible for a high risk, high reward scenario), why would CP ever agree to being that massive of a test subject, especially after the issues that TTD had when operating?

I'll gladly applaud those who have said Zamperla if I'm wrong, but it just doesn't feel right. I just want to know what all that new track at Stakotra is for...

Probably not. Images are stale there and the track segments look like a more traditional layout. Last I can find is Nov of '22 but that doesn't mean I don't keep trying.

So they will be able to claim words tallest spike. I guess that is what they are going for here? I have to admit, getting a guaranteed roll back on TTD is a kinda exciting change. Though maybe after you've done it a few times it won't seem that exciting. I mean probably what most made a TTD rollback exciting is that it was a rare occurrence.

TTD rollback is one of the two times I've ever heard my wife scream in pure terror (both were coasters). She was just a fresh thoosie and hadn't earned her stripes yet when I took her to CP for the first time. We were stuck in the platform when it went down, waited it out, and got the rollback. One it became clear that we weren't going to clear it, she didn't have enough time to process the safety mechanisms, brakes, etc. and let out a scream like no other. Only when she heard me (and most of the rest of the train) celebrating did she realize it was okay and then we hit the brakes.

Second time was on Conneaut Lake's Blue Streak (RIP) when the lift hill would sag under the weight of the train and she realized she was in for one heck of a sketchy ride that she couldn't get out of.

I'm going on July 19th and 20th. What are the odds I'll see something of interest in construction then? How close are they now to starting to go vertical?

Based on this look at the footers, it seems awfully tight to get a track up the theorized spike without either taking down the old station roof or removing Iron Dragon.

Track will go over Iron Dragon

That may be, but for a curve anywhere similar to the one leading into the tophat it doesn't appear like there's a whole lot of room to have it go under the station roof and above the Iron Dragon track.

I imagine it would go over the station roof, too, if it's in line with the previous launch. I don't know where exactly the station track will be, but if we're assuming the structure continues to stay in place, and if it's a swing launch like everything is pointing to, the train would have to enter the launch from the side with a switch track, assuming they don't do something really weird with it. They could maybe do a double up airtime moment going up the spike, like IceBreaker, but instead of the path under Ice Breaker's hill, it's the station.

Something like my quick MS paint job, maybe. The dark red is the transfer track and holding area, and the brighter red is the rear of the swing launch track that would go over the structure.
