If the comment thread is to be believed (rarely), an employee is claiming to be the one who packed them in storage for last season and I expect we would've seen pictures/reports that they were in this location at closing last year. I'm curious how long they've been outside for.
Although it's expensive, I don't see why they wouldn't replace the wheels if they plan on reusing the trains.
I'm wondering if these are being stored in place as a makeshift boneyard and/or if they're awaiting a buyer. I'd think if they're adding LSMs and reusing the trains they'd have been shipped off to get refurbished.
Wheels aren’t so much replaced as they are retreaded. Leaving them on the upstops like that is going to cause flat spots in the urethane and could possibly damage the wheel itself.

Yes, but given how long these trains are sitting and that the whole ride is undergoing an extensive refurbishment over multiple seasons, I'd think the cost of full wheel replacement to ensure they roll smooth assuming they're planning on using these trains when the ride reopens (which in itself seems doubtful based on the current rumors but we'll find out sometime) isn't a particularly large expense in the grand scheme of things.
We can probably say with certainty that these trains aren't being reused. The entire undercarriage of the new trains will need to be designed with LSMs in mind–and likely also be designed to cut weight wherever possible.
Regular drone flyovers (here) are showing good progress on massive footers. Probably fair to say the spike is a given at this point.
Still no news on who is doing it, what the rest of the layout will be, etc. Really hoping for the brake side to get something more than just the brake run but I worry there's not enough room.
Yep. Those pictures are from the YT channel I linked earlier. They've been doing flyovers multiple times per week. I'm sure CP is just thrilled.
Also, it looks like the larger pieces under the plastic were separate pieces that were added on top of the base footers, shown here:

Edit2:
There's a pretty good close-up view now too:

Another update from the same channel yesterday. More new (massive) footers and it's all directly in line with the launch track. It's only a matter of time now before CP makes some new announcement since opening the park will surely allow everyone to see this progress. Also glad to see they kept the station platform to keep the dirt dry.
Really loving these flyovers, but I do wonder about the legality. Since this channel is likely monetized, I hope they have their Part 107 certificate or they could end up in a world of headache, especially if Cedar Fair pursues it. There are also questions about the legality of "hovering around" and recording property occupants without permission. Regardless, I'll keep enjoying the updates for now.
One thing has me confused. I was looking to try and compare footer styles with those of rumored manufactures (because y'all know I still don't think it's Zamperla), and while the footers seem to match the style of Pantheon's, I noticed the arrangement was inverted. TTD's new ones have the single footer facing the track side while Pantheon's have the single footer in the back. Could this spike be "inverted" and have an angle over 90 degrees? The leaning back toward the launch might explain this. Regarding the footers, it appears that the only circular footers that I can see in recent construction from either Intamin or Zamperla are Pantheon's (Intamin), Velocicoaster (Intamin), and the Thunderbolt model at Yangzhou Fancy City (Zamperla). The two former look significantly more like these thank the latter does IMHO. Even the rest of TTD's footers are square. Doesn't mean a damn thing, but since I'm grasping at straws, I found it interesting to note.
Close look at the new footers in the top-left of the picture:
Their editing shows the inline nature of the footers:
Again, not promoting, just giving credit where due. (At risk of promoting, they have pretty cool flyovers of massive ships on Lake Erie too.)

Pantheon's single footer is facing the track side, not inverted: forward-not in the back.
Also, just because there is visible construction, doesn't mean they will make an announcement soon. Pretty CF standard. Even in a recent interview with Tony Clark, he said more subtle hints will be announced during the summer. Prob no complete official announcement til the fall.

Yup, ever since Maverick in 2006 CP has always announced their new major coaster additions in either mid-to-late August or early September. They do this to push season pass sales for the following year when the new attraction opens.
From seeing the footers in person today...it's interesting that it looks like the 2 back footers aren't too far away from each other which makes me question (if it's a spike) how tall the it would be (maybe 200 feet)..? The footers themselves are huge though so idk if that can help with the tallness of the structure...
