I was at the park yesterday and spoke to a manager/sup who was in the Stein shop. I asked her if they were going to stop selling the steins. She replied with a resounding "no". I told her what I'd heard and she said, while they will not take up as much space in the shop, they had no plans to discontinue sales of the authentic glassware. She also said they had an order being shipped from Germany as we spoke. I didn't ask about the clocks - frankly I could take them or leave them.

BuschGardener; I certainly hope that is the case.

What I was told is that there were no plans to restock the steins and cuckoo clocks. The only steins that they had more of were the ones that looked like donkeys and elephants (not traditional German looking steins) that are supposed to represent "Democrats and Republicans"

The only steins that were mentioned to get more of where the cheaper glass steins that have a metal shield on them that have either: Germany, Ireland, England, or the USA on them. As for the clocks, I was told that they had asked for more, they received no indication from higher up that more would be ordered.

I was also told what was there on the shelves was all that was left. So, if the park has ordered more "real hand-painted" authentic steins, I would be ecstatic. Even if more are ordered as you say, the fact that are no longer a main focus at the shop is disturbing and sad. For me, they are what make Rhinefeld so special as far as a shopping experience.

I appreciate your comment and concern on the matter. If they do follow up on that promise that was given to you, I will make sure to update the status here.

I was in this store yesterday as well with my mommy. I talked to the sweet old lady in there and she showed us some of the nicer steins that Nora mentioned. She seemed a little annoyed when I asked if they weren't getting any more in; clocks too. I guess I wasn't the only one to be asking such silly things.

Hey Nora, I notice you used the term not re-stock versus discontinue. As far as terminology goes; stocking is typicially just putting products on the shelves in the stores, if they said they weren't going to re-stock they could have meant they weren't going to stock the shelves any more than what they already have. Something along those lines perhaps?

For the record, this story made major waves. I wouldn't be at all surprised if a new order was put in now.

I agree. It almost seemed like the manager was parked there to field questions about the direction of the store. I'm glad that Blackstone has the good sense to listen to the die-hards...

Nora, what is the chance of a follow up line of questions, or update, from your original source? Like to put this thing to rest if possible.

PR- When I said re-stock- It meant having stock in the back stockroom so that items could be replenished on the shelves when they are sold. The dictionary says: To furnish new stock for; stock again.

The fact they were no longer had stock in the back and the woman said they had no orders to restock what was out on the shelves... that seems pretty clear.

Anyway, I am not sure if i can find out anything more on the issue. If I do, of course I will share it.

If this story made the waves that Zachary said it did; I would be proud to know the park understands their fan base and reordered them- however, I hope I did not cause any trouble either. I love the folks who work at the park. If anyone was annoyed by this; it certainly makes me feel horrible to make their lives more difficult.

We loved walking through that store and seeing the Christmas items and steins. Plus a big bonus is they 9 times out of 10 have the coldest beer in the park. haha!! :D :p

I've been meaning to post this for about a month now, so here goes...

I too had always gone into the stein and cuckoo shop. Probably like 99%+ of other guests, I never bought anything. So.... A few weeks I went in and talked to the woman who knows just about everything about steins and cuckoos. (at least she appeared to). She said they were not going to stop selling the cuckoos and steins, and that they were only going to limit the stock in the back room. Instead of having 12 of something back there, there might only be 1 or 2. She went on to say how they ended up with so much inventory not being sold, they had to sell most of it off at 50%.

So, that evening I made my first purchase there. I bought a $210 German stein of a dalmation in a fireman theme. Christmas is coming, my father in law is a fire chief, so wala, one gift down....

Now, you must admit, even those of you who love this shop, whether it's a stein, cuckoo or what have you, the average park guest isn't going to drop $200+ on anything.

Lastly, instead of complaining, I did something about it and bought something. It's a little ironic how pass members will often make a complaint such as this and end up being one of the people that don't buy anything there. If more pass members would step up and spend a little more $$, we alone could basically dictate what is sold and what is not. (There is power in numbers!)

Just to have it know, me and CK went in the shop just recently. There is a section of traditional Made in Germany stiens. They have a certificate of authenticity in them. Pics of this certificate can be found elsewhere on the forums. They seemed to have a decent stock of authentic steins, probably about 20 to 40 on display. With near 10 clocks on display.
