I've been meaning to post this for about a month now, so here goes...
I too had always gone into the stein and cuckoo shop. Probably like 99%+ of other guests, I never bought anything. So.... A few weeks I went in and talked to the woman who knows just about everything about steins and cuckoos. (at least she appeared to). She said they were not going to stop selling the cuckoos and steins, and that they were only going to limit the stock in the back room. Instead of having 12 of something back there, there might only be 1 or 2. She went on to say how they ended up with so much inventory not being sold, they had to sell most of it off at 50%.
So, that evening I made my first purchase there. I bought a $210 German stein of a dalmation in a fireman theme. Christmas is coming, my father in law is a fire chief, so wala, one gift down....
Now, you must admit, even those of you who love this shop, whether it's a stein, cuckoo or what have you, the average park guest isn't going to drop $200+ on anything.
Lastly, instead of complaining, I did something about it and bought something. It's a little ironic how pass members will often make a complaint such as this and end up being one of the people that don't buy anything there. If more pass members would step up and spend a little more $$, we alone could basically dictate what is sold and what is not. (There is power in numbers!)
