This thread has been asleep for a while but I was wondering what anyone's thoughts are on a coaster for next year?

First time poster here. I think it's extremely unlikely, as it appears Kings Island is the CF park getting the major coaster next year. Plus, Hurler is getting a refurb, which may be the park's new "addition" next year. 2018/2019 sound about right for a new major coaster, considering where KD is on the Cedar Fair food chain. I honestly have no idea what the next one would be, maybe a wing or flying coaster?

IMHO, if Hurler gets refurbished and not ripped down this will be it for a long time, unless we get a hand-me-down. Yes I know they have said that they are not ripping it down and that they are not going to move coasters any more, but I see no reason to believe them.

You very well could be right. KD is in very good shape, and the coaster lineup is pretty great with an awesome headliner. CF doesn't really have to do too much with it, especially considering it's not one of the top tier parks. I still think 2018/19 seems like a window where KD can get their next coaster just by going down the list of other CF parks, especially if you go on the assumption that KI will get a major addition next year and CP will almost certainly be getting a huge coaster in 2020. But Knott's, Dorney, Valleyfair, WoF, and MiAdv all haven't gotten coasters in quite some time, plus CW could be due for another in that time frame as well.

If (big if) Hurler gets refurbished properly, then it's most likely going to be a while. Their line up is pretty solid at the moment, especially for a second-tier park. Most likely, the next sign of things to come is if/when they tear down the next coaster which I hope will be Anaconda.

kings dominion may not be one of their dominant parks, but dont you think they should add something big mixed in with their dominant parks. they have 2 other parks near them trying to take their business. those being busch gardens williamsburg and six flags america. with that much competition being so close by, why would you not want to keep people excited about the park. last coaster kings dominion put in was in 2010 and since they've built I305 busch gardens has added tempesto and INVADR in 2017. whats to keep people excited for kings dominion? a frisbee ride that a lot of parks have?

As much as I'd love to see another new coaster come to KD, I'd rather see the park continue to fix up the ugly sections. Refurbished Hurler is a huge step forward. Once that's done, the park only has one bad coaster left to fix (Anaconda).

Dont forget verbolten too!, and also yes, KD does need a new coaster, and sadly I fear it may be a couple of more years until they get another one, hopefully when they do get one, it will be awesome.

Cedar Fair will add a coaster to KD when they feel the time is right. They're not gonna add them just because other parks nearby are getting one. As I've stated in other posts, Kings Dominion is unfortunately in a bad location, despite the proximity to major cities near by. The addition of I-305 didn't set attendance records on fire especially due to the early negative press it received, so the park didn't see an immediate return on investment. If it did then they would've added another coaster by now.

I will say that their next major coaster has to be pretty epic. It needs to get people talking about the park and help make up for the lackluster installation of I-305.

but do you think that this "extensive maintenance" is just that or could it be something bigger? because if it took an entire season to perform this maintenance, don't you think that they would have started by now or could they be using maintenance as a cover up for something bigger like RMC conversion or a whole new coaster

If anyone, GCI would be the one for the job. GCI did some extensive work on Carowinds' Hurler a few years back, completely dismantling and reconfiguring the first turn after the drop to make it smoother. Maybe they'll give our Hurler some love as they work their way up to a certain project in Williamsburg.

interesting stuff i just saw on in the loop's facebook page. could it be something for next year. probably not a coaster as usual but maybe a triotech dark ride  "Interesting stuff going on at Kings Dominion this Memorial Day weekend! Some walls have gone up on the Grove Midway. And slaughter house has been totally removed and gutted."

Nah. The planter that the fence is surrounding is being transformed into a Coca-Cola Marketplace. The master plans that KDFans leaked last August showed a Coke market in that exact location, so it looks like they're finally getting around to adding it. Better late than never, I guess. :p

Thank you Joe. Now I shall not have any nightmares about a Tri-Tech blocking Rebel Yell. Ya know what's going on im Slaughterhouse or is that there workstation for the Coca cola thinger?

Sorry if I wasn't clear. The Coke market is going in the planter surrounded by the fence in the first image. It's located between the Candy Apple Grove restrooms and Victoria's, not far from the Singing Mushrooms. It's ways away from the Slaughterhouse building.

To be honest, I never thought about the possibility of a Trio-Tech dark ride in the Slaughterhouse building. If they gutted the lackluster arcade next to it, there would definitely be enough room. That said, I'm still confident that if we get a dark ride, it's headed for the Action Theater building.

I'm putting my money on a new house during Haunt to replace Slaughterhouse. Thank God. Since I first attended Haunt in 2013, Slaughterhouse has always been the event's worst house.

I like Slaughterhouse! Would be a shame for it to go. If anything the one placed in Flight (Lockdown maybe) was awful. Action theatre would be a great place! They don't use it like lts supposed to be used anyways (cough cough* Action seats!) Unfortunately after experiencing Plants Vs Zombies at Carowinds I sure hope it isn't one of those. Due to the fact it took them this long to get a Coke Stand up, I see why there hasn't been any work done to the Hurler yet :)

I, for one, would love—neigh, rejoice over—the removal of Slaughterhouse. In fact, I actually think the event would be better regardless of whether or not KD chooses to replace it. The event could put that manpower into something far superior to Slaughterhouse.

Regardless, it is probably best to save discussions on the merits of haunt houses to the Haunt threads.

Back to the topic at hand, I fully agree with Joe here. I believe that the building has been gutted to prepare it for a new Haunt house or possibly a minor shop or restaurant addition. I'm pretty sure Hurler—whether it be a rehab, renovation, or replacement—is our Project 2017.
