Thanks Geo! I had forgotten about that commercial but after watching, it all came back. The great Paul Frees! There were so many good voice actors back in those days!

Anyone else ever stumble across this gem?

An old Arrow promotion for Nessie from back in the day.
he says 2000 riders per hour at the end! The ride ops would need roller skates to achieve that! Is it really possible with 2 wide seating?

technically they have a 4th train, but it is in pieces also the trains now have one more car then they used to have. That and a silly over protective operating computer that will not let the trains loop over each other.

A post about bolts in the Mach Tower thread reminded me of something. I noticed something odd at Loch ness this past weekend. On our third attempt to ride the coaster, we noticed it was taking a long time for them to dispatch the train. As I started to look around to see what might be the problem, I noticed one of the employees on the queue side of the station was looking at something in her hand. She then attempted to hand it to the employee on the other side. He looked like he was afraid to touch it. He finally took it from her and walked it back to the dispatch area. I noticed he handed the dispatch person a decent size shiny hex bolt. Then they had a group discussion about which train it might have come off of. Then they had a group discussion about what to do. They seemed reluctant to have the loaded train unloaded back to the queue area before investigating. At that point, I decided to bail on that ride. I was not feeling good about the safety of that ride at the moment. I am not sure what investigating was done. It was running later in the day. I do know that it ran empty for a at least two trips. It could have been nothing. It could have been someone playing a joke and dropping the bolt on the loading platform. Either way, the employees did not seem to know how to handle the situation or they seemed afraid to make the call to close the ride. To me, if you find what appears to be a parts of the ride in places they should not be, you should shut down the ride and call someone to come and investigate.

Keep in mind that Pass Member Preview Day is essentially a dress rehearsal for the park. There were probably new or recently promoted ride ops all over the park, and I wouldn't be surprised, if they didn't know what to do in a "crisis." Having done the Roller Coaster Tour and spoken extensively with the LNM maintenance crew, I am personally confident in their expertise and commitment to their jobs.

I am not saying that the specific situation you cited isn't disturbing; I am saying that I wouldn't expect it to become a regular occurrence. Honestly, I might have bailed too.

A bolt is not going to make a train, or the ride un-safe, in fact it would probably take tens, or even more than that to make it remotely close to dangerous. I've seen a bolt issue before on Nessie, it was just one that held one of the car-back covers on and the ride ops took the bolt and put it back in on their own. The bolt you saw was probably for something minor as that, most-definitely everything crucial to rider safety had been checked multiple times. However, we'd have no way to know for sure.

Nessie is a very bolt heavy train, due to its older design. Most of them are used for aesthetics, and other very minor things. And the fact that it appeared on the station floor almost proves it would have to be something like I experienced up above, most of the crucial nuts and bolts are located on the under-carriage of the ride vehicle, which is far below the station floor.

Big news! They are finally going to retire Nessie ;o(

Below is the replacement:
