Soooo. Kingda Ka might be on the list too?

I hope to god not, and I don't think it makes sense but I have to mention it since people are talking.

Has anyone mentioned this except for ElToroRyan, and people parroting him? (He has his sources to be fair, JW)

Both coasters closing could open up one hell of a plot of land, and right next to the front gate.

Where did ElToroRyan suggest Ka may close? Not seeing anything on his Twitter account about it.

The rumor should be unfathomable, but given what is happening with TT2, it's shockingly, unfortunately believable.

His latest video seems to allude to it, not sure how serious it is....

I would not take that to mean it closing as much as that he knows it's expensive and maintenance heavy; and the parks are going through a time where there could be a lot of change. In contrast, he was the first public source I heard claim Zamperla was working on TTD. He doesn't work in the industry and if there was any specific information about the ride closing, he probably would have mentioned it. That's just my 2 cents based on what I know of him.

Also, and I don't think it's noteworthy for me to report what I *haven't* heard, but I have not heard any concrete evidence of this ride being on the chopping block.

Unfortunately I don't see it leaving. I almost wish it would go away because it eats up so much of the park's maintenance budget. Supposedly it costs them more than $5 million a year just to keep it running.

There had been a plan at one point to ship it to Six Flags Dubai when that park was happening so they could offload it on them. The idea was send it away and replace it with a ~500' drop tower ride so the park could continue the claim as "world's tallest ride" without Ka and its costs.

Yeah, this rumor is total bullshit. There’s no way Six Flags would want to tear down a world record-breaking coaster, let alone one as iconic as Kingda Ka. That would be like Disney World announcing they’re demolishing Cinderella Castle.
Come this time next year though, it will have officially lost its height record to Falcon’s Flight, taking away the ability to advertise it as a world record holder.

I feel like this rumor pops up every so often - though to be fair, as far as I remember, the source(s) have also never had this large a following (if a closure is indeed what was implied in the video). Someday, somebody is going to be right about it.

I hope that someday is still a ways off. Given the crazy amount of upkeep required and funds that could be allocated toward improvements elsewhere, I'm definitely thinking with my heart instead of my head here, but losing Ka (and Zumanjaro in the process) would hurt. A lot. I know it's often referred to as a one trick pony and enthusiasts frequently don't feel the need to ride it more than once, but that doesn't stop this from being my favorite roller coaster on the planet. The whole TT2 saga (even if everything had worked perfectly) solidified that further for me this year. Closed-minded as the statement may be, for me, nothing will ever beat the punch of a front row hydraulic launch, not even a 100+ MPH backward ascension up a spike.

I'd like to believe at least retaining the North American records for height and speed is in some way meaningful to the Six Flags chain.

Considering how well TT2 is going, it wouldn't surprise me at all if this ride's days are numbered.

Here’s something else worth noting: Formula Rossa has been SBNO since January 22nd and has had no word at all from the park regarding it. And I’ve heard potential that’s getting axed soon. Could Ka potentially face the same fate? Formula Rossa was out in the desert so that definitely didn’t help… I imagine Ka would probably operate up to its closure.

I assume that the new corporate management is evaluating all possible scenarios for KK— they need to do SOMETHING to turn the park around, and cutting the huge expense of Ka would help. I just think if Green Lantern is going, Ka is safe at least one more season. They also just posted KK on their Instagram which is not usually what you do if it’s on it way out…

I've heard that Ka costs more then that to operate, but I can't deny, the idea of a Mack Extreme Spinner like that replacing Ka would have me excited as heck...

Flip side of that is it's probably one of the bigger draws for the park so does cutting it help or hurt?
