I consider this entire concept incredibly exploitative and offensive.  "Come buy lots of booze for our troops!"

In the spirit of the event, here is a a real Star Spangled Night from Iraq in 2007. It is a bomb that went off, as we were flying over Baghdad.

So now we can't celebrate our great country without people thinking we are exploiting our troops especially since it is based around a federal holiday that in no way exploits anything but instead promotes patriotism.

How about we remember that this is the 4th of July the anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The holiday is supposed to celibate our first steps towards independence from England. No part of that has anything to do with the military or the troops, a war, or our fallen military. Hell in 1776 we were not even a country yet. We still had a war to fight and a first political model to try and reject. The armed forces have Veterans Day and the mourned dead of military conflicts have Memorial day.
Now I know that many Americans confuse these three things, (and that is a wholly different conversation) but can we please keep some perspective.

Suggesting that the park not set up "lets get drunk USO style bars for the 4th of July" is not the same thing as "DO NOT CELEBRATE OUR GREAT COUNTRY." That way lies jingoism and silliness.

These surround every column...

Also, I just heard that the guy at the Greece booth will be working at the USO bar, so if that name wasn't confirmed, it's confirmed.

As a native of Virginia Beach, I can say with certainty, that Freedom is loud. But that is okay, Liberty is what you have to be careful of, you never want to be on the receiving end when Freedom delivers Liberty.

Incidentally, while I am only familiar with the Airborne version of Freedom and the liberty that it delivers, I understand that Liberty can also be delivered by land mobile Freedom.

man thanks for taking a picture of some uplighting. :) It thought it was called the victory canteen?

The lights are already embedded in the garland. We saw them today.

Incidentally, the decorations are not any better in person. They still look as if they were stolen from a strip mall.

When do they start tying yellow ribbons around every pole in San Merica?

I can live with the yellow ribbons. However if they start endlessly playing Tony Orlando and Dawn's "Tie a Yellow Ribbon 'Round the Old Oak Tree" song to go with it I'm going to have to invest in a pair of ear plugs!
