It’s been interesting to see the rehab of the sign out at SFMM which is going back to the original “Magic Mountain” name and font. I’m hoping that is company wide— I want to see Great Adventure in Jolly Roger font again for the name and sign. Doubt we’d see the Lion Sign back, but a sign using that font or the Rainbow logo would be awesome.

I would prefer if most of the DC stuff was rethemed to non-DC. But obviously not everyone is of the same mind on this. For me... enough with super hero themes.
I'm of the opinion, either do the DC theme really well or don't do it. DC can be an awesome theme, but doing it on the cheap is not good.

My personal guess is some small park improvements, would absolutely LOVE to see the first restaurant renovation now that Cedar Fair leadership is in charge. I desperately need a better place to eat while in the park, my current strategy is just to eat a Wawa hoagie in the parking lot before going in.

I'm not expecting much beyond a 2025 season start date and an announcement about Flash's debut (it kind of has to coincide with opening day at this point, right?), so anything else would be a bonus in my eyes.

My doubtful wildcards:
- Returning special events (Oktoberfest, etc.)
- A potential summer show lineup
- Something to do with the bricks on Dream Street
- A repaint of Nitro in "Electric Blue"

I don't think this is something they would outright announce, but aside from the glaring vacancies on the Boardwalk and in the Golden Kingdom, I don't know if there's anything in the park right now that needs as much love as The Dark Knight Coaster. The preshow is still really cool, but after that things get kind of barren. The indoor queue had a leak the last time I waited in it, a vast majority of the effects either don't work or are absent, and the on-ride photos have been discontinued for some time now.

When it comes to Nitro I think it's been put on hold, I think eventually it will be tied into the Pine Barrens area and that area will get money put into it to make it a legitimate themed land. That definitely won't be until the Boardwalk and Golden Kingdom areas have been updated though.

  • Six Flags in NJ unveils lineup for 2025 season, more details on new coaster

“Our 2025 events lineup is packed with excitement and festive celebrations. We’re especially excited to debut THE FLASH: Vertical Velocity, a groundbreaking new ride that will elevate family thrills at Great Adventure,” Park President Brian Bacica said in a news release.
I only recently started following this park. Is it normal for official marketing releases to refer to the park as just “Great Adventure” without the “Six Flags” prefix? It seems odd that an official communication wouldn’t use the official park name, unless they’ve always just used this is shorthand. Otherwise, this seems like early confirmation that the park is being “de-flagged” like Magic Mountain.

Anyone who’s followed the park know what the precedent is? As a marketing professional, I know my legal team would have a fit it if I tried using an incomplete brand name — but maybe SF is more lax with their trademarks.

Every advertisement I've ever seen on TV or heard on the radio for the park has referred to it as "Six Flags Great Adventure." The shorter, unflagged name was still used for a several years after the Six Flags acquisition, but things seemingly took a turn somewhere in the 80s (the 1985 Looping Starship ad in the playlist below uses Great Adventure, but the 1989 Scream Machine one uses Six Flags!).

From the time Six Flags acquired the park in 1978 they really tried to use the full "Six Flags Great Adventure" name, but most people who were locals referred to it as Great Adventure. It really was in the mid-1990's under Time Warner that they started just referring to it as "Six Flags" because they really started doing more generic commercials for the chain that could run nationwide alongside commercials for the local markets advertising new rides. That national Six Flags branding got stepped up more under Premier when they added so many more parks to the Six Flags chain.

The ride ops all used to have to spiel something like "Exit to your right and enjoy the rest of your day at Six Flags Great Adventure" in the late 70's-early 1990's, but under Time Warner the spiel was just "Exit to your right and have a Six Flags Day" (or whatever the tag was for that season), with just the Six Flags name.

I remember my first visit to Busch Gardens and laughing about how the spiel was so similar-- "Exit to your right and enjoy the rest of your day at Busch Gardens the Old Country". Same kind of emphasis on giving the park's "full name" branding rather than what the locals called it.

I mean it really does seem like everything is pointing in this direction. To me it makes total sense. A lot of people I know have nostalgia for what Great Adventure used to be like, but no love for it's current state. I know my dad when walking around Cedar Point said "this is what Great Adventure used to be like". I think the Six Flags brand, at least in NJ, is toast. Most people didn't realize the park was Six Flags until Time Warner came in. The changes since Premier Parks went under have destroyed the brand to a point of no return. They can remove the Six Flags title, bring back the rainbow logo and feed into that nostalgia to bring people back when they feel they have the park in a better state.

I will say that I generally don't care for radio station coverage of parks (usually their articles feel forced, coming out days to weeks after an announcement and containing something to the tune of "Oh no, I haven't been to Great Adventure in over a decade but it's such a bummer to hear that X Y and Z are shutting down"), but I do think that NJ 1015 does a better job than most if not all of them. Their meteorologist, Dan Zarrow, worked in various roles at the park (including ride ops) before he joined the station, so overall it feels like they take a bit more pride in their coverage.

While that article mainly reiterates some rumors and chatter from a while ago, it's a nice way to get Great Adventure back into the consciousness of people who might not be paying close attention to this topic like we are here.
