RE: Shockwave to Close Forever on August 9th

I like your thinking, but the master plan that featured the Safari Stage showed that and the Peanuts Showplace coexisting. :-/

One can only hope :)

In all reality though, I believe that 2016 will hold some pretty impressive flats and the previously mentioned up-charge slingshot. Those will keep people happy and content until 2017, when I believe the next major coaster will be added to the collection.

Providing that KD isn't 2017's first dark ride installation that The CF president was talking about.

RE: Shockwave to Close Forever on August 9th

Just got some info that this is possibly gonna be a coaster.

Now here's the kicker...

Cedar Fair is on a B&M spending spree right now - Dive Machine coming for CP where the old IMAX theatre is, a Floorless for CGA, and one possibly for KD (not sure what kind of B&M KD would be getting though).  I'll post more info when I get more details.

Also, no RMCs in the Cedar Fair chain for the near future, unfortunately,  At least not until 2018.  Ghostrider at KBF was looked at for a possible RMC rehab but CF decided to buy B&Ms instead.

as much as I dislike theme park "shows" as a rule, I hate the idea of taking down a theater with a good fly loft.  Every good proscenium arch theater is summer stock waiting to happen.

Translation? (apologies for not understanding your theater talk.)

No worries.

When you are in a traditional theater the 3 sided frame (4 is you count the floor) just in front of the main curtain (down stage) is call a "Proscenium arch."

A fly loft is the area behind and above the Proscenium that hides all the other curtains, scenery, and other items that "fly" on stage.

Summer stock is a legal form of slavery... Just kidding. Summer Stock is a tradition in the theater world, where in the off season (summer) college students and professionals take to unused stages and put on a marathon of shows. I worked at Shenandoah Summer Music Theater for several years. We would put on 4 back to back full scale large musicals each summer.

Please do! I love how top-secret this project is. Of course there were quite a few rumblings of Shockwave's removal and a SlingShot, but there really aren't any rumors of what the replacement(s) will be. KD tends to do a pretty good job of major leaks, but I'm hoping we'll see or hear some rumors soon!

Hope this is true. Is there a possibility that management is just telling employees about a SlingShot being installed? Maybe even a joint installment like what Carowinds did with their Slingshot and Fury...

It's going to be an eventful next couple of months in Doswell regardless.

Well, assuming a coaster would use shockwave's footprint, it would be one small B&M. Unless they moved those flyer swings as mentioned before and buzzed that plaza with track. Buzzing center street and blue ridge tollway would open up the footprint also. I'm having trouble imagining a B&M here, but I would certainly welcome it!

I hope Cedar Fair sends KD Carowinds' B&M standup; that seems like an adequate replacement.

RE: Shockwave to Close Forever on August 9th

I suffered through a farewell ride on Shockwave tonight. It was every bit as bad as I remembered.

Based on my observations about people's current views of Drachen Fire, in about five years this Forum will start mourning the loss of "that unique and exhilarating stand up coaster that used to serve as an iconic backdrop to Candy Apple Grove."

RE: Shockwave to Close Forever on August 9th

They could use shockwaves foot print for the station and have the lift go over the walkways and have the actual ride part in the back woods of kd or somewhere else, any thoughts?

RE: Shockwave to Close Forever on August 9th

I gave this ride a courtesy ride last Sunday and boy did it deliver. It has its really bad spots like the jolt in the helix and the rough turns but the ride feels like it picks up crazy speed at the end and you've got some interesting moments of airtime throughout. I can see why people seem to love these things.

The crew was awful though. Maybe its the weird seat setup but they were pulling 5 min dispatches every single time.

I'm kinda sad to see Shockwave go and I kinda regret not riding it last fall for Haunt, but I hope KD and CF have big things planned for this spot in the future.

RE: Shockwave to Close Forever on August 9th

Loading Shockwave is incredibly time consuming. The ops have to manually raise or lower every seat that isn't at the proper height for a rider. This takes a very long time. Come to think of it, I wonder if the awful dispatch procedure played any role in Shockwave's demise.

Also, in the past few weeks I've been riding the coaster more than usual, so I've been able to find more comfortable ways to ride. I now politely ask to have the seat lowered to the point where by shoulders hit the top of the restraint. This keeps my face cleared from hitting the restraint and prevents jarring ejector time. After using this technique, I've finally been able to ride Shockwave virtually pain-free.

...just in time for it to close.

RE: Shockwave to Close Forever on August 9th

Shockwave was never my favorite, but it will be interesting to see what we get next.

If nothing else, I got some good photos of it this past spring before we knew it was going.  I'll be back next weekend with my camera to take some shots of its last days.

As much as I hated it, nostalgia is a powerful force.

Being the worst at something is a distinction of sorts, is it not?

Sadly for Shockwave, it isn't even the worst, in my opinion. Mantis for me was a much more painful and unpleasant stand-up. Shockwave was just generically bad.
