RE: Project 2018: Rebirth of Hurler

The one thing I really hope for with this is that they either increase the height or do something to make the airtime snappier. I wouldn't be surprise cause thats a very RMC thing to do. Does anyone know if an Iron horse would run faster anyway due to less friction?

RE: Project 2018: Rebirth of Hurler

According to Wikipedia, Twisted Colossus's top speed is 57 mph vs Colossus's top speed of 62 mph despite having a drop that is 1ft longer. Wikipedia Entry

Assuming Wikipedia is right, which should go without saying, it would appear on solely a stats basis a RMC Iron Horse conversion is actually slower than a traditional wooden coaster. It should also be noted that this does not include other factors such as angle of descent, weight of the trains, and speed of the lift.

Every single other conversion is faster than the original though.

Both sides of Twisted Twins had a top speed of 55MPH

Storm Chaser goes 52MPH

NTG, IR, WC, Joker, Medusa Steel Coaster got faster.

Anyways I don't see how Hurler could get slower as below 50 MPH would be a waste.

I'll take slower over a spinal cord injury any day.

How does 55 MPH cause a spinal cord injury?

Jesus Christ.

They all also got taller, have longer drops, or steeper angles of descent.

Yeah and so will Hurler.

He was speaking in terms of a potential RMC conversion have a top speed slower than that of Hurler's when it was operating, opposed to Hurler staying as it was in its operational state...a back breaking death machine.

I fail to see the important of a few MPHs in retrospect of this entire project. We're getting an RMC, we can speculate all we want based off their past works, but the reality is that they are also notorious for having a few tricks up their sleeves.

Let the higher ups do the digging and people can start ridiculing the ride for being a MPH slower once we know for certain when we either get something leaked to us, or a formal announcement is made.

RE: Project 2018: Rebirth of Hurler

I was referring to the overly intense jack hammering in the first turn during the last six years of its life. Obviously you didn't understand my post so I'll explain. Having a new smooth ride that 'MAY' be slower, is more encouraging to me than the ride 'as it was'. Meaning, I did NOT enjoy feeling like my spine was being rammed into my ass from the inside every time I rode it. Clarity.

RE: Project 2018: Rebirth of Hurler

Anyone else think they might go for a barrel roll on the drop after a swooping 180? Can't think of a better way to handle that portion of the ride.

RE: Project 2018: Rebirth of Hurler

^I strongly suspect they might. That the entire bottom of the first drop was lopped off altogether—rather than simply removing of the wooden track—may be a major clue that a barrel roll drop or some other unique element on the first drop will be part of the new ride.

Twisted Twins at Kentucky Kingdom experienced the exact same thing during its conversion to Storm Chaser: the bottom structure of the first drop was removed completely. This allowed for a new steel structure, which created additional support for the coaster's barrel roll drop and permitted it to swoop precariously close to the ground.

Hurler right now is looking awfully similar to Twisted Twins in its final days before becoming Storm Chaser, so I wouldn't be surprised to see our RMC borrow some elements from its cousin in Kentucky.
