RE: Project 2018: Rebirth of Hurler

I did a quick sketch up of what's there and area to expand if they did and it got me to thinking, if KD took hurler all the way past ricochet to do a turn around at the rebel yell/entrance to back water park it would look very cool.  Going through the woods there could give it a feeling like grizzly almost which I really enjoy.  Also the amount of land behind it is almost the same size of land hurler is already on.

One can hope.

But given the fact Mean Streak will be getting an RMC face lift as well, (which by the way is a larger project) we can't expect a large investment toward's KD opposed to CP's project.

Plus, CF usually invests in just one large coaster per year. So the budget is probably limited as it would be if it was just one large investment.

RMCs aren't nearly as expensive as B&Ms. They can afford two of them.

That is all stuff us enthusiasts pick at. I thought the food was fine, just expensive (arguably the biggest complaint amongst park guests). Running out of cups sounds like a good thing to me, shows that they expected lower attendance numbers. People don't care what's on the cup, they care about the refills. KD has gotten many things since I305. We have seen several flat rides, a waterpark expansion, dinos, park improvements, and more.

KD is fine. You sound like KD has done nothing yet, they have. I don't see this "bad image" you explained. I see otherwise. Sometimes it's the small things that count. KD just needed to fix what needed to be fixed before adding another coaster. Guest complained KD added nothing but coasters. They would say there wasn't enough for them to do. KD listened to it's guest and decided to add more than just coasters. KD added waterslides, shows, Kid's rides for the little ones, thrill rides to accommodate us thrill seekers. Getting tempered over a rollercoaster? A coaster has been the last thing KD had on there minds since 2010.

Just out of curiosity, What's wrong with a conversion? That's what we all wanted, KD listened, they post a video hinting RMC, people still aren't happy. You can't please everybody.

I think you totally missed the point of my post, so please let me make it simple.  I don't dislike the additions they've had since i305 and I understand that any well-rounded park, but given their recent history, I don't expect a huge change to Hurler with the retrack.  CF has clearly made the conscious decision to divert a lot of their funds for new attractions and improvements to Carrowinds, which is a business decision.  As a result, KD is the one that gets the leftover scraps.  Why is KD getting a medium size flying frizbee instead of a larger one?  Why is KD getting two kiddy area expansions close to each other?  Because that's all CF is willing to give them.

I'm not saying this conversion isn't anything minor, but what I am saying is I'm not seeing CF spending money on a major change or expansion to Hurler because over the last few years I haven't seen CF wanting to throw that much money into KD. If there's any RMC conversion that will get a huge change, it will be the wooden coaster CF owns at their flagship park less than a day's drive away.

Let's also be fair, the decline in appeal I see in KD isn't all CF's fault.  As Nicole pointed out, the food has had a severe decline in quality.  I used to be excited to go to KD and try something new, but park management has decided that quality food should not be a goal and just give people chicken tenders because they'll sell regardless.  There's also relatively simple shit like letting No-Boos into the mazes after they said they wouldn't and the utterly tone-deaf 2017 presentation which gives me the impression of simply not giving a single fuck about the guest experience once they get people in.  This sort of apathy towards the guest experience inside the park makes me wonder how much they're fighting for funds from daddy if they're so apathetic and try to sell guests on kiddy rides and wifi.

If you truly hate what KD has done to the park, Six Flags America is about an hour away from said Kings Dominion.
You're new here so you may not know this, but this line of responding to critique of the parks has been used multiple times in the past, is flat out insulting to those who voice concerns about a park, and never leads anywhere good.  I'm not trying to threaten you, but in the past that line has never ended up anywhere good.

Oh boo hoo. Kings Dominion didn't give you what you wanted for 2017. Big deal. And this is coming from someone who was notorious for whining two months ago. They went small for 2017 because they can't add a major attraction every year.

And by the way, an RMC is an RMC. There's no crappy upgrade.

I actually disagree about the food.  In my opinion, it was worse this year, and the loss of Chef Paul bodes ill for next year.

I guess it just depends on how soon the park can hire another chef and what that person can do in 2017. KD has had the chef position advertised since mid-October on their web site. They did not start advertising the position that Chef Paul assumed until late Jan / early Feb. He started early June of the same year. So the park has a 3 month head start this time.

Plus, the spring flower event and BBQ & Brew event will probably keep going as they have been in place for 2 years now. I think enough subordinates have been trained to keep things moving along until the next Chef takes over.

Given how well CF has treated the park, I'm skeptical of any big changes to Hurley besides a retrack.

Watch this again. If you feel the same afterwords, go to bed. You must need some sleep ;)
Actually I interpreted this to mean nothing to big. It seemed to say the rebirth of a currently dead ride and not a new ride to me.

RE: Project 2018: Rebirth of Hurler

OK.  I am going to jump in here, because some of you are getting dangerously close to personal attacks, which we all know are one of the few things prohibited on this Forum.

I neither know nor care what debate is like elsewhere.  Here we encourage and protect everyone's right to express an opinion, within reasonable boundaries.  No one ever has the right to insult someone else for believing something different from him or herself.

Furthermore, there is no reason to tell someone that he should go to another park, because he is not happy with how his home park is doing business.  It is completely fair for all of us to critique the decisions of all of the theme parks we visit.  It is not the goal of this site to support everything that happens at KD, BGW, or anywhere else.  We are NOT fanboys.  We are people who want our parks to be as good as possible, which can mean that we disagree with the directions they sometimes take.

In short, everyone is encouraged to debate the merits of each park, but no one is ever free to attack another member for an opinion.

RE: Project 2018: Rebirth of Hurler

I want to chime in on the chef issue. There is reason to belive that Chef Paul left because of poor management. Certainly we saw that marketing did nothing to help him, and they still fall falt on their faces. (look no further than Food Truck derby, (or whatever they were doing, I assume racing becuse that seems right)

If I were a chef that was in demand I would not want to work somewhere that did not support me. As such I would think it might be hard to find a chef the caliber of Chef Paul and if they did is it likely that they would stick around in an alleged toxic enviorment?

(again this is all based on the assumption that Paul left because of management)

Here's an article that was posted over on FB from the LA Times and mentions both Mean Streak and Hurler and the RMC group. Thought you might like to read it. Not sure if it's anywhere else right now on here.

Went to the boneyard today to see what I could see. I found a couple of white trucks over by hurler but I didn't have a good enough camera to capture it. There was also some beams of some sort next to a machine. Any guesses on what they are for? I also know that hurler is going to be rmc'd in 18 but I just can't help but to speculate. :D

RE: Project 2018: Rebirth of Hurler

That is flat bar stock. It's the thin piece of steel that is used for standard wooden coaster track, and a lot of it. I would assume it's for Rebel Yell. (There are hundreds of feet in each wrapped stack and I see at least 5 stacks in your photo.

RE: Project 2018: Rebirth of Hurler

Thank you for the post. I do want to point out that the park has confirmed that Rebel Yell is having track work done over the off season the stuff you are see is most likely connected to that and not Hurler.

RE: Project 2018: Rebirth of Hurler

I visited the boneyard a little over a week ago and used my high-zoom camera to see if I could detect anything. As far as I could tell, nothing was touched. All of the track and wood was still in place on the visible main structure, and nothing noticeable has happened to the station. That said, considering RMC already has its hands full in Ohio, if Hurler really is getting the Iron Horse treatment, it's very possible that RMC is tackling only one project at a time and Hurler will get its turn later.

I'll try to post those pictures soon, in case anybody else spots something.

Where did you find this link? Even though the webcam seems broken right now, where is it located on the website?

Ots live again at the moment. Of yourse right now it's night and dark so you can't see anything. My guess is there testing it right now and that there will be some sort of announcement at pass holders night followed by it going live when work actually starts.
