RE: Project 2018: RMC Hurler

Anybody else think the first airtime hill is pretty short compared to the lift?

No one knows what that first turn "element" will be. That will probably be higher than the second element which is that airtime hill.

^^-- Oh, it's going to go much closer to the ground than before. For a "ground hugging layout", it was pretty tall before, that referred more to a lack of hills than actually being close to the ground, except for the major banks on the inside it stayed at least 12 feet above the ground. Looks to me that between those hills they're going right down to the concrete.

So,

The words "Rotten" and "Wood" can be found.

A horror themed coaster is possible and would follow Mystic Timbers. Though part of me would be skeptical about whether or not KD wants to attempt good themeing.

If this is a spooky themed coaster I would be 10 times excited than I currently am about RMC Hurler, and I'm pretty dag on excited!

RE: Project 2018: RMC Hurler

Not to bring up politics, but the nuclear theme is probably not the best theme with the political climate and what's going on in the world today. Let's not forget this park has dealt with their fair share of name complaints with "Miner's Revenge" and "Maze of Madness" getting hated on and I'd prefer for them to not go through that yet again.

Personally, I'm hoping for a great theme, but also something that ties into the area with Ricochet and WindSeeker right next door. Unless KD were to to what Carowinds did this year with the County Fair re-theme of a whole area, such as changing 'Carolina Cobra' into 'The Flying Cobras'. This area could become its own designated themed section of the park once again like it was with Wayne's World and I'd hope Cedar Fair would give the park the money to do so since this project should easily be under $10 million total.

If not, at the very least I'm hoping it isn't too random of a theme and will compliment Rebel Yell and Americana well.

(Side note: Hoping Drop Tower finally gets repainted in 2018 after 15 years with its original paint job)

Agreed I really would like to see that thing looking fresh instead of old faded orange and yellow.

I am so incredibly excited for this new coaster. Intimidator 305 + RMC Hurler + Dominator + Volcano = amazing.

Why is kd's drop tower simply orange and yellow unlike the other versions at carowinds, cga, etc.?

My guess would be in 2002 when Viacom decided to build a large drop tower at Kings Dominion that orange and yellow paint were cheap at the time.....maybe?

Today's work seems to be focusing on reinforcing Hurler's original lift hill support structure. That said, since our last update, Hurler's new lift has been topped off and we have some new RMC track peaking out from behind the coaster's station.

Be sure to click through all three pictures:

RE: Project 2018: RMC Hurler

There's quite a lot of space in between the top of the new lift hill and the wood remaining for the drop - I'm excited to see what elemen⊥(s) they include before the big drop.

Also, I began thinking today that no matter the theme they go, I'm really hoping the station gets a nice themed makeover that doesn't require billboard-like advertisements to cover old Paramount logos.

RE: Project 2018: RMC Hurler

KD posted an interesting image from the past a few weeks ago:
I don't appear to be able to hotlink it, click here
As well as me not remembering the short period Old Dominion Line was exposed to the park like that, they appear to be building Hurler. Note the station building has no walls. That would possibly be an improvement.

RE: Project 2018: RMC Hurler

I'm starting to doubt the ride will be announced on August 16. It seems that CGA and Knott's are booked that day.

I don't see where it is topped off. The track hasn't been installed all the way up the lift yet has it?

It has been topped off, you can tell by the ledgers and how they start developing a downward slope. The track is placed directly onto the ledgers.

In the second pic that Nicole posted, there is no track showing all the way up the lift. The ride is topped off when track is installed at the highest point of the ride (usually the peak of the lift). Maybe I'm missing it?
