Now that we are talking about bridges being replaced, I seem to remember that the bridge from New France to Rhinefeld is re-creation of a real bridge in Germany. However, when they changed the rails on the side, I think they removed the sign that explains that. Does anyone know anything more about this?

I am thinking about booking a fishing charter when we come down in June this year. Have any of you been on a local charter or have any advice. Should I do the James or York and what service would you recommend?

BGW Family? We await your extensive historical input. :p

Gee, no pressure. :p I recall it looked like one of those roadside or historial markers, the dark or bronze looking ones. I think it had the AB Eagle logo? That would make it a target now, for sure.

I have more to say about the "subtle" changes, like this sign, after looking over some 10 year old sources. I need to figure out which thread is best.

Does anyone know of a way to get to BGW completely on Route 60, as opposed to taking I-64? I've never tried it but would really love an alternate route for when traffic is backed up.

Where are you coming from? It is definitely possible and when I lived in Newport News, that was the only way we ever went to Busch.

I'd be coming from New Kent. We usually take I-64 but sometimes (especially during HOS season) the traffic is bad and we want a different route for when that happens.

I'm not super familiar with the New Kent area but 60 does run all the way up to Richmond so you would just have to find the closest connection to get on the route.

Once you are on it, it's not a bad drive and I know people who take it instead of the interstate in order to get between Richmond and Williamsburg. You will get a decent amount of stop lights in some areas but it typically doesn't get too busy.

The only major confusing thing is that when you get to Colonial Williamsburg, 60 gets a little weird because the route gets broken up by the town, but there tends to be a lot of signage directing you how to stay on 60/how to get to Busch Gardens.

Busch Gardens is literally right off of 60 (I believe 60 is called Pocahontas Trail at this point) and you will first pass the brewery and the employee parking and then you will come up to the main entrance (will take a right). You will end up actually merging with the same traffic coming off of the interstate.

Just remember, if you get to Newport News and 60 turns into Warwick Blvd, you've gone to far (though I doubt anyone could pass BG and not realize where they are....)

If you want, you can take I-64, then taken Route 199, and use that to get to Route 60. 199 has two exits off of I-64. One is closest to the park and has large directional signs to help you get to the park that way. The other is a little further from the park, but you can still take it close to the park and then take Route 60. Route-199 is a little better than just straight 60, because there are less stop lights, it literally is a straight road and easy to follow, and the speed is mostly 60/55MPH with one 45 section.

Like mentioned, you can take probably take Route 60, all the way to the park, just get on it first :p But more stop lights, the speed limit is a little slower, and it can get confusing in Williamsburg. I would say just stick on it and you eventually pass an iHop, an Walgreens should be on your left and you should go left at that stop light. It will take you past the police station but straight to the park if you keep straight from there.

From New Kent take rt. 155 south to rt.60 east to Busch Gardens. Its easy to use MapQuest dot com to figure out a route that works for you. You can print out your route and take it with you..

Here you go, if you want to completely avoid I-64 from New Kent, just follow this route:

I often take 60 from Richmond all the way to BG. Many times it's much faster than I-64, especially on Fridays during beach season. It's a toss up on going straight through Williamsburg or taking 199 all the way around. Both can take the same amount of time. 60 is a very nice drive. I will also take 60 back to Richmond, especially on Sundays during beach season.

We just got our first passes!

This is probably an obvious question, but I assume I just show the parking booth person my e-ticket I printed and they'll let me in without paying the fee?

Thanks!
