maybe the vertical venegence part would be part of the announcement name but once near opening, those words will be dropped (like total mayhem was renamed to joker before opening or centurion renamed to fury 325 before announcement)

This name is terrible, and it really could’ve been fine if they just called it “Gargantua” instead.

Or maybe, the name will be Gargantuan: Vertical Vengeance like Zumanjaro: Drop of Doom and after a few weeks it’ll just be “Gargantuan” to everyone. Would still prefer Gargantua (sounds more like an actual name of a thing than an adjective) but I guess Gargantuan alone would be alright to below average instead of just being plain atrocious

I feel like they're being way too "In your face" with that container for it to hold any actual hint about the name. Ryan got a good kick out of people thinking the coaster would be Wawa themed last year and he's probably loving every minute of this (justifiably so!).

IMO, doing a bait-and-switch like this on the name would accomplish two positive things:

1. Generate a ton of chatter about the project as the announcement approaches

2. Ensure even those who weren't originally fond of the Phantom Spire name breathe a sigh of relief as the unfavorable alternative is dismissed

Of course, GVV could be the actual name and make me feel like a gargantuan idiot for posting this. Six Flags has really enjoyed adding alliterative subnames on recent projects (along with T:RR, the digitized queue time sign for Great Adventure's own Joker now says Joker: Midway Mayhem).

To double down on this post being dumb... My first thought on SC abbreviation was Shipping Container. 😆

Gargantuan Vertical Velocity would be pretty terrible, but heck, at this point, I'm just glad it's not another DC-themed name... a few years ago, it probably would have been Gotham: Vertical Vengeance.

Also, even if the official name is Gargantuan: Vertical Vengeance, I feel pretty certain people will only ever refer to it as Gargantuan.
And while that's pretty generic, I guess it's no more generic than Nitro.

Nevertheless, I'm still hoping for a better name.

Whoever said "Gargantua" a while back, I still think they had the best solution for this GVV line of thinking. That's both a solid coaster name and a plausible name for an urban legend sea monster. Gargantuan Vertical Vengeance is neither of those things.

I'm starting to wonder if GVV are the right initials, but we're just being trolled with Gargantuan Vertical Vengeance. Like, maybe GVV stands for something entirely different (and hopefully better....) And it could be something we'd never guess.
I mean, imagine if when Kingda Ka was being built they dropped hints that it would be called Kool Koaster, and then we started seeing KK appearing in the park, we would have all been in a panic. 🤣

Mythical sea creatures of the North Atlantic that could have been used to various degrees:

Jörmungandr - the serpent Son of Loki who was big enough to wrap itself around the world

Hafgufa - Norse mythical creature so big it was often mistaken for an island.

Zaratan - similar to Hafgufa but has the ability to create whirlpools to suck ships down

The Draug - spirits of sailors who were Laos’s at sea but not given a proper burial

Cecaelia - half human half octopus creature said to use human beauty to lure sailers to their demise

More common ones could be Calypso, Kraken, Cetus, Lusca, Typhon

For what its worth coliwood did state that phantom spire and GVV arent the names. They even put a SS phantom rowboat in the pier. Seems like trolling to me
Yeah, I was just thinking that about the life guard boat over in the Pier. They're putting out clues for both. But if they're doing that, along with Ryan's previous statements about trademarking several names and keeping everyone in the dark as much as possible until they're ready, one would imagine the name will be something totally different. There's no reason they can't trademark the real name the day-of the announcement, knowing it's available and nobody outside the company knows to snipe it.
