Was not sure where to post but would be nice to see it at BGW…… how far from ground level is the rhine in that area? Top of lift hill at 220 could the rhine hill add the extra 80 needed from the terrain?
Not sure the height drop off but the high point is ruffly in this area which is fairly far away to believe that we are talking about using the drop to the Rhine to make it a Giga.

I believe the filing said that the max height structure from sea level will be 302'. With the Rhine itself being about 20' above seal level there's no way this will be a giga unless the first drop plunges into a tunnel. The park won't deface the Rhine like that.

I know it’s fundamentally not possible, but I sort of wish that there was the ability for Busch to collude with the county and lie on the paperwork just to throw us off the scent one of these years. As much as I love the sleuthing and speculation, the idea of getting a proper surprise still has a hold on me.

This assumes the park is even capable of an interesting, engaging, and effective teaser and announcement campaign. Looking at other, recent, largely-unleaked SEAS projects, I don't see much evidence that the chain actually can or wants to do these things. 😕

Yea unfortunately it’s law holding that back. On top of that is BGW announced before filing it could put JCC in a tough spot.

I do know for years the relationship Hershey had with local boards was that they could give less detailed plans for public meetings (this is why things get leaked, the plans have to be submitted before the meeting) such as height waiver and impact area. Many parks have relationships where they can do this, but many parks also don’t boarder a community like Kingsmill.

If living next to a theme park is really that detrimental to ones personal life..........I mean there's only so many of them in the world and there are a lot of houses/other homes out there that are and this is true.....not next to a theme park.

One time I saw a facebook commenter saying to "just close Carowinds, roller coasters are an eye sore" and man did I want to reach through the screen.

People don’t think about the tax revenue (thusly an increase in
County services, thusly an increase in property values) that a amusement park generates when they say dumb stuff. I doubt that the golf course would have gotten built there if it wasn’t for the fact it was a touristy area already with historic Williamsburg AND busch gardens serving as the main two draws to the area….

Kingsmill Plantation/River/Woods courses opened at the same time as Busch Gardens.
Golden Horseshoe Gold course opened in 1963; Green added in 1991 (4 years before BGW's 20th).
Williamsburg Golf Club opened in 1958.

Outside Williamsburg but "right there"
Kiskiack opened in 1997 and maybe one you can say is there because BGW's tourism help.
Fords Colony opened in 1985, then added 2 more courses in 1999.
Williamsburg National opened in 1995, maybe you can say was because of BGW.

Honestly though the crossover of BGW goers and Williamsburg golf trips is maybe 1%. I would say KM and GH golf courses are a bigger reason for the boom of golf courses than BGW. Williamsburg, in the golf scene, is starting to supplant OCMD as the "go to" for golf trips in the mid-Atlantic region.

To be fair it's not just King's Mill that pushes the disclosure. It's CW, The Jamestown and John Smith historic Waterway project, it's the flight paths to the municipal airport. All of these play factors in the public filings

And we all know how much they looooooooove to complain about anything and everything

About 12 years ago I was at an event hosted at a play that was behind the State Fair Grounds and quite away back from KD 305 was clearly visible and audible it gave me new respect for the position of KM residents. They were also actually fairly supportive of Invadr and Tempesto in the public hearings to.

Many of those houses predate much of BGW's modern construction some even owned by the same people as long as BGW has been in existence so that argument isn't fully valid

The Golf Course opened in 75 the same year as BGW so no BGW was not a driving force other then Busch had a vision for both.

Correct. I think those parties handle the objections better though. Kingsmill's resident board tries to go for the "shock and awe" type show at public hearings. They are the classic NIMBY's that planners hate having to take meetings with. When historical preservation societies like those come to us, they hit more at our core than NIMBY arguments.

I guess I was talking about PGA involvement it in(which is a much bigger draw that a random golf course)

And I disagree with you. Golf for the parents, or grandparents, busch gardens for the kids.

PGA (now LPGA) involvement has little to do with it. And you may disagree, but the average age of the Williamsburg area golf trip customer is 57.8 years old via the MAPGA data. So little crossover. You maybe get a round of golf or two out of a family group, but there’s no child care programs at either location.

Little to do with what?

I think you are being a little narrow minded. The whole family doesn’t have to go golfing (or attend a pga event). The entire family doesn’t have to go to an amusement park. The point is Williamsburg offers something for everyone which makes it attractive for families to visit. That includes golf and amusement parks.

Anyone can be obtusely ignorant if they want, if that’s how you want to be that’s up to you. 🤷

Let the statistics speak for themselves. Plus, most people who go golfing are trying to get away from the family 🤣 better yet for golf tourism. It's a leisure sport and activity.
