I can't speak for anyone else, but I don't think everything in German can be associated with Nazis. I do, however, think that iconography and concepts explicitly used by the Third Reich and Hitler are inappropriate in a theme park.
We get it, some people don't like the ride name options. Let's remember, it's just a ride. To be honest, this whole discussion of so-called Nazi references is way over-the-top, uncalled for, and dare I say detached from reality. (As well as offensive and dangerous.) Accusations like that should not be thrown around flippantly during a discussion about a Wolf-themed family ride. I seriously doubt BGW is trying to secretly pay homage to Nazis. Hard to believe that even needs to be said lol

Yeah, but someone at BGW greenlit this shirt too which could be misconstrued despite no obvious ill intent. IMG_5180.jpeg

I don’t know how this being downvoted. Verbolten has theming to the autobahn which was built by the Nazis, and nobody is saying it’s a reference to 1930s Germany. I don’t think it’s worth the energy to try to bring historical context into Wolves or storms.

No one is claiming BGW is intentionally making reference to Nazis. The issue is that BGW's process for naming this coaster was so sloppy and slapdash that they, presumably, didn't realize that at least one of the names carries a really undesirable connotation for a lot of folks. A good handful of people have all, independently, come to the same conclusion now that it sounds, at least vaguely, Nazi-adjacent and it is, objectively, VERY close to a well-known and infamous Nazi militia.

No one is ascribing any malintent—just asserting that the process for naming this coaster has clearly been, at best, sloppy and inadequate.

Explain whats wrong with it
I didn’t notice it at first, but someone pointed out the whip and the color of the people on the train. Is it a stretch? Definitely. Am I offended? No. But that doesn’t mean someone else can’t take offense.

I take it your not a fan of the german language if you hate "nazi sounding things".
I was born in Hamburg and minored in German in college lmao.

EDIT: Also, echoing Zachary, it's not that some of us think BGW is secretly run by Nazis. It's just a bad look to have a roller coaster name that sounds like a documented component of the Nazi regime.

This idea that any sort of consciousness or caution surrounding Nazi stuff is "political brain rot" is ridiculous.

The majority of people dont see a name like wolfsturm and start schizo posting about a nazi sounding name. Im sorry but you sound detached from reality to even suggest it.

We're getting WAY off topic here, so this is the last thing I'll say. A few of us just mentioned it sounds Nazi adjacent because of a documented Nazi militia called the Volkssturm, and a few other people got up in arms for even suggesting it was short sighted.

I know people like to be apolitical, but we're not trying to accuse anyone of anything, just saying it's a little haphazard on BGW's side. I don't know why y'all are so up in arms. I think avoiding invoking the Nazis should be pretty universally agreed on.

My original comment was half-joking anyway. I just don't like WölfsSturm as a name

Wölfsturm sounds fine to me. It's the only alternative that sounds like a name. I'm definitely not a fan of including the Wolf in the name, but Wölfsturm is just the only one that rolls under the tongue as a coaster name when not considering meaning.

Seriously, though. Read the forums, marketing people. It's Holzfäller, unless you guys can come up with anything better.

Please let’s not fight. Some of the things being said right now sound almost like personal attacks. I personally want Busch Gardens to be careful and to not come under fire. All it takes is the slightest bit of ignorance from guests to start a storm on the internet, and I believe it’s in Busch Gardens‘s best interest to foolproof everything to prevent that.

Believe you me, I get very tired of people acting like the German language is inherently scary or something, but I don’t think that anyone was saying that at all. You can’t fix stupid, and Busch Gardens certainly can’t.

Simply put, people can be ignorant sometimes and make some wild assumptions. That’s how I read it. Can we please not jump to conclusions and accusations about someone over the internet that we probably don’t even know?
