According to past/current trends, the 50th anniversary will be a one-year celebration. My guess is it’ll most likely happen in 2025.
Their 40th anniversary celebration lasted across two years. EDIT: it's because a portion of Kings Dominion originally opened in 1974 for previews, and then the full park opened in 1975. Most other parks never opened like this AFAIK.

Hi there! Long-time lurker, first-time poster.

I was at the park this past Thursday (7.20.23) and want to ask about something that seems to be going on at the Volcano site.

While going up the lift hill on Reptilian, I looked over the Volcano plot and saw a large brown concrete form to the south of the station hut (close to where the train would exit the station and turn left). The form is almost a perfect circle and was surrounded by 3-4 pallets of pavers; it looks like it's going to be some kind of rotunda or plaza - similar in size to the exit rotunda below Reptilian, although it's tough to judge with such a short glance.

After riding Reptilian, I went over to the hut to see if I could spy the rotunda through the fence and get some pictures, but no luck. It might be that Reptilian's lift hill is the only good viewing spot.

If anyone can comment further on this rotunda, I'd love to hear more about what's going on. Thank you! 😃

Was there this past week as well, saw all of that. Also saw a bulldozer yesterday but I don't frequent the park enough to know if that's common.

I was at the park on Tuesday. I got a clear picture of the rotunda in question from Arachnidia's fence. 20230718_163203.jpg Additionally, behind the coke stand between Jungle X and Flight of Fear, there are white flags marking the edge of proposed excavation. Thought I would share this, I hope it helps!

Could the pavers be Jungle X Phase 2? We know that the section for Backlot/Anaconda could do with some pavers.

I could be wrong, but I think those pavers are left over from last year, when they replaced all the asphalt in the main Jungle X plaza (between the entrance, Outpost, and Jungle Market Eatery) with pavers.

That said, the white flags by the Coke market and Flight of Fear sound like news. Any chance you got a picture of those?

Does anyone else feel as though Kings Dominion would have started teasing new attractions by now? Dorney and Cedar Point have both released teasers and announcement dates for their supposed new coasters, but Kings Dominion hasn't released anything. I think that combined with the fact that little to no work has been done in the Volcano plot, a new coaster won't be there till 2025. However a flat ride package would do great at Kings Dominion, though the only thing i'm wondering is if it is coming is 2024, when will they start teasing it?
There could still be a major flat ride for 2024 and a coaster in 2025. KD doesn’t seem to tease major flat rides far in advance, like they never did with Delirium.

Given that Cedar Fair has a habit of setting attraction anouncement dates based on what is usually the major capital expenditures for the following year, I am not sure that a major coaster is in the works for KD in 2024.

I am not saying that we are getting nothing for 2024, just no major coaster next year. Plus, we are way past the construction timeline for a major coaster. If one was going in the mountain spot, KD would have needed to clear out the land in the spring and start grading the land. June would have seen the start of pouring concrete footers. By mid-late July, coaster supports/track would start arriving. Erecting the supports/track would start in August, etc. Right now, we have a location that some folks have reported utility markings and some bit of barrier construction on site. That is the extent of any site changes at this point.

If KD were to get a flat ride package in 2024, I could see an announcement in mid to late August.

If a coaster is from Gerstlauer though, like an infinity coaster, could it start construction later in the year? Monster started construction in 2015, the same year the log flume it replaced closed down and was removed, and the same went for Hangtime when it replaced Boomerang and Riptide (latter closed in 2015). Given that this land is mostly free, it would've been a great opportunity for KD to take their time to construct something like this. But TBH, it makes more sense for them to focus on JX's needs first, which in the eyes of plenty of us is a flat ride or two.

Cedar Point didn't start teasing/releasing announcement dates for Wild Mouse until the day before the announcement IIRC. Yes, I know that's a smaller attraction, but I still think it's good for reference.

Does anyone think we’ll find out KDs 2024 plans this week with the other Cedar Fair announcements from Dorney and CP? They haven’t done any teasing this season on social media. I wouldn’t be surprised if this is another off year or a year for park improvements unless they have some flats hidden up their sleeve.

Hopefully if they are doing Grizzly rehab part 2, they would hype that up. A flat or water park addition would be nice, but completing Grizzly would give them a top tier woodie In essence.
I would take that with Jungle-X pushing further back and a Volcano replacement in 2025.

They didn't do teasing for Windseeker or Delirium before those were announced. There could be a flat ride coming and it would fit well around where the survey flags were spotted near FoF and the coke stand, if it's what they're indicating. Then there would still be enough room for a new coaster in the gaping hole. I don't remember any teasing for Tundra Twister either.
