It's fun visiting the X-Pedition area each weekend, seeing what new aspects the park has been working on over the week. So for anyone interested on a few of the latest updates (which I at least noticed)...

Volcano's old queue house has some art work:

The cement stampings around Arachnidia are now painted in:

Tumbili has new bin storage:

And the markings around Flat Rock are now colored in:

Will be interesting to see what new additions they work on this week.

Wow, those improvements look great! The grassy roof on that small dome-shaped hut in front of Volcano’s old queue house (the “research center”) is also new. The building was just covered with burlap last week.

I might be reading to much into it but, if the old volcano que Is a research center is that just a temporary theming/cover up until they start the second/third phase of JXP and the volcano replacement starts rolling in, or will this tie into what’s being put back there?

I don't think you are reading too much into it. I imagine it will be related to the whatever ends up there.

I don't think anything is going into the Lost World/Volcano site until 2024 at the earliest.

At a minimum, the old queue house is there to visually block off the demolition site until new construction starts. Could the structure be razed when construction starts? I don't think so. I feel the park will repurpose the structure when the new attraction(s) is/are built.

Right now, I'm thinking the structure might be re-used, for a third time, to be an extended queue line for a new attraction. Or, part queue line and part something else.

Most likely, 2023 will be phase II with BLSC and FOF getting major re-themes. I would not rule out a small/medium new attraction for next year.

With this whole thought - I can see them potentially using some of this plot to put some flats in right now. using the old queue as a shop in the mean time.

Honestly a cool use would be that when they do decide to use the plot, let the area be used as a construction observation station.

If KD went water ride in Volcanos spot and put the replacement coaster in Old Virginia, that would help to balance the park better.
Water rides belong in the water park. I don't care about balance in this regard. I don't want to ride a water ride with regular clothing on. Not counting a traditional flume, which they already have (and it's a good one).

It would also be close to the old Dimond Falls spot.

I would assume that maybe something more like Journey to Atlantis if that is what they are going for and I consider that a big IF at the moment

I don't want a water ride if it's not in the water park. But putting some flats and other stuff in that spot while also building a coaster elsewhere to balance things out would be good.

Where in old Virginia are they going to build? It’s going to destroy the trees there if they put anything that’s larger than a family boomerang.

Parks that build these types of water rides on the borders of the dry and water parks have the right idea. I'm with @Crunchewy on this but I know that's not the majority. Obviously they can't move Old Virginia closer but new tires would be better placed on the border so you can just go in your clothes or in your swimsuit.

That being said, I think this is nothing more than improving the theming and not a ride at all though it could be related to the volcano replacement.

Some interesting monkey statues appear to have been added all around Tumbili. It gets more and more detailed each week.
