Well, if it's a wing coaster, and they keep it safari themed in this area, and don't name it Condor, it's a failure.

Since they seem to be keeping the old Volcano queue/station building, I am not sure why they would not stay with the current safari theme for the ride as well.

"Not California" Condor here we come... sigh...

I would really love to see them add one of these.

It's the closest thing to Volcano that we could get. It has the launch element and it twist riders around as it whips through the course. I don't know Cedar Fair knows about this ride design, but they should really consider investing in it. Based off the elements of this design; the park wouldn't have to remove anything near Volcano to make this ride thrilling. Most of the thrill is in the seats, so expect a lot of turns. Guests would probably prefer the start of the ride to be a launch. The manufacturer does have the option of installing a lift hill if the buyer wants it. I'd rather have a three different launch checkpoints on the ride.

Been a long time now since Hypersonic. I doubt that weighs too heavily in the park's mind at this point, as any reflection of what S&S would provide today in a prototype.

True, but I also think that Cedar Fair is radically risk-averse right now. I think any S&S project would likely be viewed as risky, but an S&S prototype? I think Cedar Fair would have to be desperate before they'd even consider it.

That said, maybe recent BGW investment has Cedar Fair feeling a bit cornered in Doswell...? It's not impossible. A bigger risk (S&S multilooper, air launch, or something even crazier like an Axis prototype) definitely has a higher possible payout than a small B&M Wing Coaster.

A touch off topic for a Volcano Replacement, but it's kinda funny to me how the two parks have seemingly flip flopped some. KD seems to be putting more emphasis on the experience of being in the park, and BGW is putting more emphasis on what to ride in the park.

But getting to your end point there:
Yea I think that a small B&M Wing coaster would really have a nice impact in terms of ROI for CF and it's something they know they can build and have turnkey easily. But Pantheon is a bit of a prototype, sounds like P2021 is similar in experimental/prototype. Even if KD doesn't go fully prototype or experimental with the replacement, I feel like they really have to go with something different for the region or even stateside to capture attention.

I've noticed to it in the past, but I wouldn't mind if KD took 2021 'off' from anything major, and go 1 of 2 ways with this:
1 - Undo the Safari theme completely and really just revitalize the entire area. Use the old DA plot as the "Replacement" for Volcano. And the reason I say this is that Safari area of the park (IMO) have enough coasters as is with FoF, BLSC, I-305, Avalanche, Anaconda, all having entrances within a few steps with each other. So "spread the wealth" so to speak, develop a new direction for that area.

2 - Split the FOF/I-305 area into it's own thing, throw another flat or two back there and pull on (of crap I forget who suggested it) the idea of theming I-305 to space, and make that area 'space' themed. Then take BLSC, make the Mini's look like Jeeps (that should be a simple shell replacement) and give it a real safari escape theme. Throw a new flat in the BLSC/Anaconda entrance plaza. And in Volcano's old plot, put in a really themed Launched Vekoma Flying Coaster in a small twisting footprint. I even got an idea of the name and call it "Condor".

I don’t necessarily disagree with any of that. Just commenting on the notion that the specific Hypersonic experience starting 20 years ago would be the primary factor in CF’s larger scale risk aversion at KD, which was how I read the earlier comment.

Surely nobody installs S&S and says, “This’ll be a slam dunk, boys!” But as you note, CF is driven by a wider current strategy that just doesn’t involve pushing the envelope with new rides. And I suspect that’s the first failed gate for any notion of CF going with a new S&S system.

Though I’d love to have that new system somewhere within a day’s drive...

You captured some of my thinking in your 1st scenario. The park is so lop-sided with 5 coasters on the east side of the park (Safari Villiage). It would seem perfectly logical to place the next coaster in the old Dinosaurs Alive site and surroundings. It would give some balance to the major attractions in the park.

I just don't feel that a coaster will necessarily go into the Volcano site in 2021. Maybe in 2022 or not at all. Park development can change, even with the coaster plans revealed earlier. It just shows that KD was getting ideas on what potentially can go on that site if they went with a new coaster. My best guess is, if we don't see any land prep going on in the volcano site by July 4th, then it is doubtful a coaster is going in that spot for 2021.

Now that i think about it, could you install a Are Curtain style coaster in Volcanoe's spot? Or maybe one of those single rail coasters. But it's possible that the park may leave the land untouched until they are certain on what to add. You never know, that could take 3 years. Especially since they got Twisted Timbers.

I also mentioned this on the old KD fansite. If they removed Avalanche; they'd have more space to work with. Only dkw side is your losing a family ride. But how much use does that ride get these days?

If avalanche doesn't get long lines anymore, I'd say knock that down and add that to the space available for a new coaster. Again, the brand new s&s launch would fit as a good Volcano replacement. If Cedar Fair can fit it in the budget; build another volcano structure to house certain areas of the coaster. With the seating style doing more flips, it would be rather cool having more close calls with pyrotechnics.

If the park doesn't want to do anything with the land right away; it could be used for bigger HAUNT attractions.
