Someone enlighten me, i have not been on a wing coaster but have seen many POVs of them. They look sooo slow and slugish, its like have a 700hp hellcat but the car weighs as much as a boat. Are they different when you are on the ride? If so, 100ft sounds like the most sleeper ride ever.

I think the only wing coaster I've been on is Gatekeeper, but they're not very forceful, just slow and graceful compared to a sit down looper.

I think Wing Coasters are really fun. I’ve ridden Wild Eagle it is a graceful smooth ride. I think one would be a fantastic addition to KDs lineup. Sure it’s not rare and unique like Volcano but did anyone actually think Cedar Fair was going to match Volcano? Also this ride will be safe, reliable, and a crowd pleaser for sure. If you want your extreme rapid transitions and airtime I believe we have two coasters satisfying that need.

Yeah I don't know why anyone thinks KD needs another really intense coaster. They already have a plethora of them. A wing would be something both the GP and (reasonable) enthusiasts can enjoy.

I love wing coasters for the exact reason you are saying. Being on both Wild Eagle and Gatekeeper they are so graceful and smooth. If I had to equate it: Loopers were like turbo'd civics, inverts are like pony cars, winged coasters are like Bentley's.

I always see people calling for a B&M hyper to go up at KD and quite frankly I just don’t ever see that happening. I love B&M Hypers a ton but I just can’t imagine Cedar Fair deciding to build one at Kings Dominion. I will gladly eat my words if I turn out to be wrong one day. For whatever reason we got an Intamin giga while KI CW and Carowinds all added B&M hypers and gigas. In regards to what I DO see them building: B&M Wing Coaster, GCI, and maybe an infinity coaster.

So the call is always for a hyper in KD, but jumping to I-305 made it hard IMO. So I think I got a solution:

Getting a mild intensity coaster seems to make sense for KDs lineup. KD’s current offerings in that group are all pretty rough, sans the Stunt Coaster, so a smooth, milder coaster would be nice for a lot of guests.

Since going that direction probably won’t drive attendance or generate much interest on its own, it doesn’t make sense to make this a huge version from an investment standpoint. Better to split the investments between a midsize ride and special events that combined can drive both attendance and guest satisfaction.

KD still needs to do something bigger at some point, but in the short term this is a good move to keep guests coming.

Fantastic job @CoasterMac! Looks just about as close to the proposal as possible. The pacing feels really solid too despite the 100 foot height.

I'd be happy with a coaster that exactly matches what @CoasterMac made. It wouldn't be my favorite coaster but it would be a fun ride that I would enjoy riding over and over.

I counted 40 seconds from the top of the lift to the brakes. That's shorter than I305. Just doesn't seem like much to it.

I found my one wing coaster ride not graceful at all, just slow. Dominator is graceful. But it is true that some tamer rides would be an improvement. The old approach is to use your older coasters as starter rides, giving the choice of rougher and more janky vs. intense and intimidating. There are a lot of possibilities that could fit that bill though, most of which aren't as inherently huge as a wing coaster. It is possible to build a steel airtime machine around that 100' height, and would cost less than half as much.

Seems to me the best application for a B&M wing coaster concept would be as a financing wedge, then ask: what 2 superior coasters could we get for the same price?

Unfortunately, Cedar Fair's MO right now seems to be to massively overspend on mediocre B&Ms over and over again. I get the guest satisfaction on them is excellent, that their uptime is fantastic, and that there's essentially no risk in signing a contract with B&M. It's all probably a fantastic business decision—they're consistently getting really good, popular, reliable coasters. That said, I don't think playing it safe is what puts parks on the map... And there are some Cedar Fair properties that are seriously starting to fade from that map if you ask me... ?

The difference is that Kings Dominion isn't saturated with B&Ms yet. The higher-up parks in the chain are at least three B&Ms and even Dorney has two.

Looking at the fan POV...yeah, that's really short. We're not Six Flags Great America, please.

I honestly have no problem with Cedar Fair's love for B&M. As Zach said: great guest satisfaction, incredibly reliable, and essentially no risk in installing one. I'm very welcoming of a Wing coaster for KD, but, my main problem is THIS layout. It's such an insignificant use of a wing coaster. Rides like Fēnix and Flug Der Dämonen are just 30ft taller and do a lot more for just a few $mil more. For the price point though (I'm going to assume $12-15m for the KD ride), I feel like that budget could've been better used on a killer GCI woodie or a Gerstlauer Infinity (à la Monster @ Adventureland). Y'all get the point

Even though we don't know if these plans are even still accurate, I think a wing coaster would be a smart choice for KD for 2021 or 2022. KD is mostly a local/regional park so I think the idea that they need to put themselves "on the map" (especially in the same park that has I305 and Twisted Timbers already) is silly. Plus, since BGW Project 2021 is already playing the "intensity" card in 2021, I think KD would be foolish to also try to compete on intensity. Instead, they should differentiate their new attraction with uniqueness - and any way you slice it, a B&M wing coaster is a unique addition for the region. Most guests at KD have never ridden Wild Eagle which is 7 hours away.

So, while BGW gets to market their super tall new coaster, KD gets to market their "first coaster of its kind on the East Coast." I think the "coolness factor" of wing coasters is a great selling point to give KD the marketing weapon they need against BGW.

On the other hand, I feel like rides like a GCI or Infinity would get lost as "just another wooden coaster" or "just another looping coaster" to the GP.

Im starting to think Busch is better in every way over KD at this point. Busch is getting 2 ground up damn good rides, "most likely". Might be the wrong thread for this, but going to KD over the summer was just boring to me aside from intimidator and TT.

^I mean if you ask me I would be inclined to always prefer BGW over KD. That said we are damn lucky here in Virginia to have both of these parks in our state. If you live in Richmond like me the theme park itch can get scratched. I always see trip reports from enthusiasts from outside Virginia who just LOVE both of our parks. We just go so often its very easy to get nitpicky.

I am very okay with by 2021 our selection becomes:
-Batsh*t Crazy Intamin Giga
-Intamin? Launch Shuttle? (whatever 2021 is)
-Intamin Multi-Launch
-RMC Hybrid with tons of airtime
-The OG B&M Hyper that I could ride 50 times in a row
-B&M Dive
-Insanely huge B&M Invert
-Awesome B&M Floorless
-B&M Wing Coaster
-Multi Launch themed coaster with drop track
-Indoor Premier Spaghetti Bowl
-Mini GCI
-Sky Rocket II
-Nessie
-The last Mack Bobsled in the US
-The others.

I can't really complain too much honestly then most of PA, Carowinds, SFA, and SFGAdv is easily drivable. Imagine being a coaster enthusiast in North Dakota (do those even exist???).
